    Default Invader Vs. Distortion

i currently have a invader wired in parallel and i still want/need more high end. i like the amount of distortion i get from the pickup and i like the push it gives but its still too dark. would a distortion cure this? im going to buy one tomorrow i think, just to try out. whatever everyone think? pros and cons of the invader and distortion?

never played the invader in my own amp...but the distortion is the, IMHO, END ALL metal/hard rock lead pickup. if you want rythm chunk, not so much. not without a mesa and some eq i'd say anyway. but great for ALL lead/lead type sounds. including riffage.

I must beg to differ. The Distortion is THE pickup for great metal/hard rock rhythm chunk. The bass is tight too! Its great for riffage and although it has an excellent lead tone it wouldn't be my first choice. The JB is similar in voicing but much sweeter toned. Or you could get the best of both worlds and buy an Alt 8 Distortion rhythm and riffs with JB leads.

well im gonna buy the distortion, possibly the set, and if i dont like it ill exchange it through duncan for an alt 8. there was so many pickups i was looking at, i settled on these too. i play in two bands, and in one i need the invader, but its not fitting in this guitar. im gonna put it in my alder iceman and through the distortion into my magohony iceman, and then i figure i can get the best of both worlds.

You'll probably be happier with the Distortion than the Invader but the Invader hex pole mod is always a good option to try instead of buying a new pickup, but since you have the exchange policy to switch pickups go that route.

Or get an EQ pedal... works the wonders that you usually hope for when trying a different pickup.

i have the DD in my les paul with a 59 in the neck. I like it a lot, and I'd say that it's more versatile than some would say. it's most definitely tight, which is what I like the most about it. I haven't played the invader in a long time, so I wouldn't really be able to compare the two as much.

i took the invader out and placed in a distortion, leaving the 59 in the neck

man this thing rips! at band practice, i was able to finally cut through without my solos being shrill, which was all i wanted. i like a really bright sound, but not sharp like the stock pick ups were. running an invader through a magohony iceman into a bass amp, just too much low end. it will be going into my alder iceman though

i deffinately like it for rythm, i just figured that the invader being (ive heard) balsier and more low mid/bass oriented, that it would probably be its strong point. i just think the strong point of the DD - though only marginal - is its lead tone. but what you say about the Alt8 makes me want one even more!!
