    Default Wolf5150 Was Right!

So I was looking at these pups as per his advice. The sound is so great! Sounds kind of like Burstbucker Pros but w more agreeable EQ! Listen to the juicyness with attitude! Luv it. Absolutely fine guitar pickups. Put my order in for a set last night. Going in my PRS McCarty! Can't stop listening to the samples in anticipation!

    Listen to them here:

Clips sound good, but you can't possibly make any real tonal observations on the pickups when you don't have an idea of what's in the rest of the rig.
Duncan Pickups in currently in use: '59 (rewound to PATB-3)/'59, Custom 5/AP2H, Tapped QP set for Tele, Duncan Distortion, SP90-1/SP90-2

It's hard to tell from sound clips if a pickup is all that. My LP standard plugged into my TT50 or Superdrive II sounds very similar to it. Very juicy sounding.

No you're right. I'm taking the dive though. Plenty of great things said about the Goodwoods. I called and talked to the guy. Nice guy. Doesn't do dealers. He sells only direct. I think he will do a fine job for me!

Jim is mad, in the best possible way.

    He's a really fabulous guy.
I've e mailed him at stupid hours and got an instant reply, always with some added humour.

He even e mailed me on my birthday to call me an old fart... how many manufacturers keep a note and make the effort ?????????????????

I'm a huge fan of him and his products, if you like single coils, you should hear his !!!!!!!.. I'll continue to sing his praises.

For me, the Goodwood with a Darkburst neck are the Perfect pickups for my guitars.

I just picked up a Hamer Newport with a Crossroads set. They're nice pickups, kind of like a juicier, better-balanced '59 set. Very nice, but not necessarily a revelation when compared to Duncans.

I read reviews of the Crossroads. Apparently not the best WCR makes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're bad at all. I like them more than the 59's or Jazz neck, which are similar in output. However, I have a Suhr DSV (one of Suhr's PAF's) in the neck of another Hamer and I like it a bit better. It's just a question of taste.

I'm inclined to agree with you. The clips don't tell the whole story but from what I heard I don't like them a whole lot either. I think you have to be going for the kind of tone they offer or it would be very disappointing! Could be like that with any pup!
