whats your favorite magnet?

Old thread but as far as humbuckers go, my choices are still pretty much the sam. A5 i dont get along with much.

For strat and teles howevet, a3 and a5 rule the roost.

But, type of wire and wind is just as important..actually more important than magnet, afaic.

I just happened to be looking around today for a nice summary of each magnet type's characteristics before I saw this thread. Found this:

I just put switched out the ceramic in my strat's HB-103 for an A8. It's fabulous.

I also have a Custom 8 in the jolly roger and it too kicks ass.

I love the A8. Such a great sounding magnet - squishy, strong, chewy, crunchy, tight and fat all at the same time.

I thought the A2 could be the best, but I'm currently using guitar with A2, UOA5, A5 and Ceramic, that I sworn I'd never use anymore, and in every guitar they are the best choice I've found.
So I can't say what's the best, it depends on a lot o factors.

I can say for me, *not* the 8. To much sizzle - couldn't eq it out when I was trying a tb-15 alt 8. I will concede maybe this mag was never a good idea for the git I was using it in(a swamp ash Strat).
