Default series/out of phase questions... again! PLEASE READ!

Hello everyone. I just spent a couple of hours wiring up my explorer for coil splits and series/out of phase. Everything seems to be in working order, but I just want to double check. The coil splitter works as expected... but the series/parallel I am curious about. When I have my 3 way at the bridge and hit the push/push pot with series/parallel, I don't hear any difference (at least I don't think I do!!!), but if I have it in the middle there is a huge difference, kinda like a cocked wah wah pedal... very cool, and then with it at the neck it is different again... thick and juicy... very neat. When I hit the coil splitter all other stuff happens which is cool. I have no hum or anything either.. think I got it right the first time? I thought the series thing didn't matter what position the 3 way was in? Thanks in advance, you guys kick major arse!

I can't seem to post it up here... basically it is the 2 volume, 1 tone with 3 way and push/pull diagram from the duncan website but the bridge volume pot bypasses the tone pot....then I add hermaticos oop/series mod on the neck volume push pull... Here is hermaticos diagram... I just added a seperate bridge volume... again not connected to the tone. it.http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/a...1&d=1210902369

Ok spent more time exploring my sounds... here is what i have:

with my 3 way at the bridge position and both push/pulls in the down positions; normal bridge and everything else seems normal too... when I split coils everything seems normal...

when I am on the bridge bucker and hit the series oop push/push... I hear a slight change in dynamics... a little darker but not much... then when in middle position sounds the same as bridge until I roll back my bridge vol just a touch and then you hear the 'cocked wah' sound. when in the neck it is the cocked wah sound only louder.

If I engage coil splits AND series/oop the middle position is SUPER quiet until I roll the bridge off a little bit.

All in all I have some pretty cool tones... and my 'normal' tones are still normal so this extra stuff is fun to play with. Even if I have it wrong I may leave it... it was a pain in the butt fitting it in the cavity!

do you have it wired up for series/parallel or series/out of phase? cause you said both, and if its out of phase thats the way its supposed to work, both pickups need to be on.

series/oop... not parallel sorry! I keep finding more and more tones... I had to mess up somewhere but it was a good thing I think! I think what is happening when I have the series/oop switch up, and it in the middle with BOTH neck and bridge volume up I am getting my bridge bucker with the extra load of the tone and volume pot... BUT when I roll the tone down it seems like a spin o split for the inside coil. Normal split is the outer coil. when they are both series/oop and split... I don't know what is going on, but it is cool. Thing is though I just roll the bridge vol. back a hair and BAM 'money for nothing tone!'... there is some glitch I think... I don't know what I did, but I likes!

Is it possible to use this diagram hermetco drew with taking out the bridge tone? I don't use a bridge tone... only for the neck. I have an explorer with the setup going: nv, bv, tone. I would like the nv to do the series oop, the bv a normal 500k pot, and the nt do the splitting... this should be possible right? My wiring is all kinda goofy!

I would prefer the tone only affect only the neck... I like that woman tone on the neck, but don't like the bridge with a tone. I saw in an old post something about dependent or independant volumes? Which one would work? As long as I can lower the volume on the neck while keep the bridge full I am happy... I don't really care about it with both pickups together if you know what I mean? Thanks again!

Alrighty then! I just wired it up this way, and it was the same as before! I must have gotten it right then I suppose! this is what happens...

with nv down and nt down (the push pull) I get normal bridge/middle/neck bucker sounds.
with nt up I get split sounds which is to be expected.
when I have the nv up and the toggle in the bridge I get normal bridge (with load of neck volume pot so sound is a tad darker) but when I roll back nt it is like a spin-a-split... on the other coil! and if I do both split and series/parallel on the bridge I get very very nice split tone... don't know what it is but it is good.

If you've split the pickups then a phase switch will change which coil you get, I believe.

    Now,
With 3 way in middle position and the neck volume push pull up, I get the same bridge sound until I notch the bridge volume back a hair... then I get the series/oop sound... and if I add split I think I am getting an oop single coil sound which is super clean!

With 3 way on neck bucker and series/oop engaged I get the sereis/oop cocked wah sound (only a little louder as I don't have any volume pots rolled back). When split it sounds... different! I don't know if this is how it supposed to work, but honestly, it is very very cool and I have a tremendous amount of tones at my fingers now! I want to thank you all for the help and If I get the chops up I may post some clips on you tube or something!

that would explain it I suppose... but why is the tone acting as a spin-a-split? Not worried just curious!
