Default Can someone clarify boosts for me?

Ill start off by saying Im not experianced in the world of tonal assessories.

So with a planned order of GFS parts soon for my project, I came across these...

    http://store.guitarfetish.com/activepreamps.html

So, I get that they improve the bass/mid/treble tone, but when talking about adding 12 to 20db, that is what im curious about..

My main intention for getting one, would be like, If im playing with a rhythm distortion track, could I flick the boost on and have my guitar be louder for a solo?? and would it give a significant enough boost to be worth getting?

I always envied how people can go from playing a lower-volume rhythm track, then straight into a screaming loud lead, usually with a pedal, but getting something like that on the guitar itself (while keeping the same overall tone) would be great.

    Any help is appreciated. thanks

12dB-20dB is all the boost I could imagine you needing in that situation. That level of boost before your amp's preamp will probably cause it to saturate more, though, so it wont be exactly the same tone as your rhythm tone, but it should be good

yeh.. I dont care if its exactly the same, just similar. Again, im not a tone whore =]

I was specifically thinking this one, Do you think that would get the job done? And could it be like wired as a Push-pull or something so it can be activated that way? The site isnt exactly clear

20db is a heckuva boost. I assume they're talking about a voltage gain here, so if you started with a typical 350mv's out, a 20db boost would give you 3.5 volts. Thats quite a kick to your amp.
