    Default California's Gold

Ok, I know there has to be some others out there who understand and appreciate the genius that is Huell Howser. I'm not sure if this program is in fact aired outside of California and if not I pity those living in the other 49 states.

I must admit, I had not watched the show for a while but now that I'm home for the summer I find myself hooked again. Huell's trip out on a sea urchin fishing boat hooked me. Captain Obvious' (aka Huell Howser) vocal timbre, inflection, frequent reiteration of the conspicuous, and gratuitous use of the phrase "That's amazing!" are nothing short of... well... as Huell would say, "Amazing!"

So, anyone else watch this television documentary series masterpiece that is known only as 'California's Gold'?

I have watched The Deadliest Catch a few times. Never heard of the show you are talking about.

Hahaha. Oh man. This show isn't about sea urchin fisherman. Its just a really crappy (or awesome depending on how you look at it) documentary series and on this particular episode he happened to be on a sea urchin boat.

I'd post some clips from youtube but I'm afraid that much of the allure and intoxicating effect of spending some time with good old Huell will be lost in translation due to the fact most the clips are cut down pretty short. That and he might be an acquired taste.

I think he's only aired in Ca though. I'm just wondering if any other California dudes know who he is and share my fascination with his show (and how he manages to stay on air - though I think it is largely due to his strange cult following, of which I'm a part of).

Yeah, Huell Howser is a piece of work alright. Local radio host Adam Carolla does a bit about him frequently and also yes captain obvious is a great nickname?
He acts like such a tool how can one NOT love his show!

I'm strangely attracted to his show as well, only because he has interesting scenery. But, I'd also like to punch him in the throat, mid-sentence, ......

Huell kicks ass! My grandparents watched him every week when I was like 5-15.

I love his voice too, I can hear it clear as a bell in my head.

I've seen his show a few times. It's better than any fictional show! And with more personality...
