Why is it so hard to answer a simple question? Maybe the desire to answer in some profound way? I have been playing since I was 12 years old. No **** that talent and soul prevails. But again, if equipment did not matter, then why are we all on this SD FORUM talking about gear? Why not just have one guitar, one amp, etc, and let the fingers do the talking?

Ill say it. Without my Fender strat with SD pups and nice tube amp (JSX), the tone is not as good as with my cheap MIM strat and Gorilla amp. Sustain and good tone inspires better playing, no?
if this was my thread, at this point I would have said the exact same thing, both verbatim AND word for word, except interspersed with liberal sprinklings of various forms of "fudge". "Ya fudgin pundits..." and so forth. But I happened to eyeball this superbly written nugget of goodness:

I say fingers and attitude for pro players. David Gilmour's solo on "Another Brick In The Wall Part 2" sounds like David Gilmour. You listen to it and it sounds like a Strat, because it's David Gilmour. It's a Les Paul with P90s and no amp, run into the board.

It still sounds like Gilmour, with the "wrong" guitar, the "wrong pickups" and no amp at all

Put that in your pipe and smoke it
...and after following the instructions, I let out a hmmm. He even prefaced it with an answer from the poll to satisfy any statistical measurement. Also, I surely didn't know that about the legendary lead break he examplifies. I thought fershers it was the black strat through a cranked tube monster with the guitar volume rolled back or somesuch.
