Cool Rolling Stones Shine a Light

Ah yes.....the DVD release date for sales and rentals is tomorrow....July 29, 2008.

I didn't see it in the theater, and almost forgot about it, since my mind was on other things for the past several months (wedding).

Tomorrow, I'll stop at Blockbuster first thing in the morning to see if I can rent it. Or, just buy it.

Anyone else interested? If you've seen it...what did you think?

Haven't seen it though I do want to, I'm a big Stones fan. Not only that, but I LOVED what Scorsese did with Bob Dylan. The documentary he did called "No Direction Home" is one of my absolute favorite DVD's, I looked forward to it when it was coming out and it is as good as I thought it would be. So when I heard that Scorsese was doing a documentary on the Stones I was totally stoked.

I just want to say that the song Shine a Light off of Exile is one of the best songs on that album, maybe even one of their best songs in general. What a great band!

I have this at the top of my Netflix list. If I like it a lot, I'll buy it.

I'm with Nightwing. Wish there were something from the Mick Taylor days.

Bring it on! I went to the stones to the max, I think that's the title at the local imax theatre and it was awesome.

I have a feeling I should just buy it for $20, rather than rent it for $5.

I'm trying to hold off my gas for a Fender 52 Hot Rod Tele, and I'm sure this DVD isn't going to help matters.

I rented it on the morning of the 29th, it's release date. It's not quite what I thought...a Martin Scorcese documentary. It's more of a concert of them now, with some old clips of interviews thrown in.

Still, it's amazing to see the Stones now. Chesus, they look old, but honestly good for their ages. Still the greatest rock'n'roll band in history. Great playing, tones, and gear.

The highlight was Buddy Guy coming out, playing a repeating lick behind the beat for several measures, then busting out the awesome vocals, doing his typical competition style against Jagger. His just mows them over with his amazing presence and soloing. This alone is worth the price of renting the DVD. However, the whole thing is well worth renting. Not sure I'll buy it, like all big Stones fans are, but I'm going to watch it continuously for a week, soaking it all in.

I just rented it from iTunes and loved it! The highlight for me was Christina Aguilera. Man she's beautiful and what a set of pipes on that girl.

The bummer with iTunes is you only get to keep 24 hours i think which is a rip off!

It's a good video, but it's not what I would have expected from Scorcese. It's basically a concert video of them nowadays, with old interview footage thrown in.

Movie producers always produce music videos funny. They bump up the audience response after every great thing the band does. They have a different production style than recording engineers would have.

I saw it at the movie theater. I really enjoyed it but I doubt I'll buy it. I enjoyed the old interviews and footage from the 60's.

I think I was most impressed by how fit Mick Jagger looks! My gosh - mid 60's and not an ounce of fat!

And by how wasted Keith looks. Whew - scarey.

I dug the Buddy Guy segment too. Buddy's been a favorite of mine since seeing him and Junior Wells playing together at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit around '67 or '68. Buddy's both a great entertainer and great musician too. Sort of the Blues version of Louis Armstrong in a way.

Saw it on IMAX. Keef's face is truly frightening when it's four stories high.

I really enjoyed it. Does the DVD have alternate camera views? -I'd love to watch Darryl Jones closer.

GJ: want to get over the '52 hot rod tele? -play a swamp ash Suhr tele. That should delay things a while.

I'd sooner watch the news. It's less tired.

It was a good show, but not a great one. I wanted it to be at a huge arena, and I was hoping there would be more documentary bits.
