Default Educate Me About Toaster Style Pickups

I've just got a Tokai Ric knockoff and it has toaster style pickups.

It got me wondering - what exactly are toasters - hums, singles p90's
I only know 3 chords but I play 'em real good

i think they are single coils but honestly im not sure. 7.5k is the money area for them, older ones were more like 5k but thats too bright for me, newer rics are like 11k or 12k

    Howdy,

I've been a Rickenbacker owner/enthusiast since..1984, when I bought a little John Lennon model 325 back in my college days at LSU. It too, had the "toasters".
OK, they're single-coil, of relatively low output (usually) and are very articulate. Oh, they're AlNiCo, too.
While the footprint of these P/Us is very close to mini-humbuckers and P-90s, I don't hear much of a similarity. Of course, they may not sound like Ricky's toasters, so keep that in mind. I think that toasters look like a million dollars, but prefer Rickenbacker's more modern "Hi-Gains", which are a direct replacement. Good luck!

PS: I discovered that toasters can sound positively wild at high volume! Don't be too quick to dismiss this P/U as being good only for clean jangle, etc. I hate to admit it, but rock & rollers like us can be bad about having preconcieved notions regarding the role of certain guitars, amps and P/Us. YMMV

    Anymore for anymore?

Not sure if this axe is gonna stay. For a lady player the top of the guitar digs into totally the wrong place
