Default I think I have to give up eating......

    Seriously.....

I have gained a ton of weight over the last year. It comes on the heals of losing a good bit the six months prior. My overall health just feels lacking. I get out of breath real fast, my energy is low, I am ashamed of my looks and my clothes fit tight.

I have always been a big dude. I look like a skeleton at 210 and sexy at 240 (so i have been told LOL!) I want to lose 60 pounds. It is easy to do once my mind is made up and on task, but I am having a difficult time doing that.

I get weak in the knees at the sight of a vintage Fender amp!

I'm right there with ya man.

I gained about 40 pounds since I started working in this office 2.5 years ago... a sedentary job has NOT agreed with me. I've managed to lose about 10-15 pounds by reducing my portions, cutting out as much extra sugar, salt, and fat as possible, and exercising more, but I'm still about 30 pounds over. I just can't seem to break that barrier and it suuuuuucks. The worst thing is as soon as I take a 2 week vacation (about twice a year) I start dropping weight and then I get it all back over the next few weeks at the office!

You're at a pretty decent size now brah. There is a happy medium.

Well I'm 5'5 and 200. I should be no more than 160, tops.

i'm skinny anyways, but for my diet ive just done two things

    1. DONT EAT SO F-ING MUCH. its hard, but start small.

    2. read the nutrition labels, and avoid anything with corn syrup, fructose, anything procecced is bad. empty calories are no good either, a frapachino is 400 calories, with no real nutrition, and its $5

if you start slow, you're eating 3 slices of pizza instead of 4. if you take it to an extreme like my yoga buddies, you eat like a chipmunk. its weird, but you will feel better, especially once you stop eating so much processed stuff

also excercise is good, calories eaten vs calories burned = your weight...

    +1

I've always felt that it's a lot healthier to have performance goals rather than weight goals. You can lose weight and still be healthy . . . it's usually hard to perform better at a sport while still being unhealthy.

A great suggestion. I'm not playing soccer two nights a week, and although I still need to shed some pounds, it keeps me active.

I agree. If the sport is incredibly fun for you then it's very easy to keep at it. The times I've most enjoyed a good cardio workout - while not even noticing I was getting it - were when I used to play social ice hockey a few years back. Fantastic fun.

Dude it happened when I fell in love with Vallon. I lost about 35 pounds after breaking up with my ex at the time, but you guys know how it goes when you meet someone new. You spend time with them and your routine gets thrown off and before you know it 1.5 years have gone by and you are back where you were before losing it. I need to lose weight!

Yup, you got married Its easy to let happen with out knowing. You settle into a new routine and generally its a comfy one. Once you've realized it, like you have you can do it. It sucks, but you can do it.

But hey, it's paid for, right?

These business trips kill me. When it's on the company dime, how do I NOT order Ribeye instead of salad?
    Oh no.....

I was always tall and slim my whole life, but in my mid 30's my metabolism slowed way down, plus I was eating and drinking anything I wanted. I packed on some weight and hated myself for it, but I was lazy and depressed.

One day, I had chest pains and generally felt crappy. A friend hooked me up to his portable blood pressure machine. We both freaked out because my blood pressure was off the charts, and I felt like I was having a panic attack that day. It was all due to my diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and hard liquor. I hit the end of my rope that day.

When I'm scared, I tend to have more willpower to correct a problem....especially when it's related to my health. I did something that day. I said, I'm going to make a list of what I can and cannot eat. I cut down on sodium and booze. I promised myself I'd exercise everyday, even if I hated it. I also knew I didn't want to get married, looking unhealthy. This was back in February....the beginning of me getting restored back to the way I was in my 20's.

So, the diet is this.....chicken breast, fish, vegetables, water, tea, juice....and a few beers here and there. That's it. Almost no carbs, except the occasional rice or pita bread. And definitely no junkfood, fastfood, cookies, or soda.

5 days a week, I wake up in the morning, put on my bike shorts, and ride 6 miles down a safe bike path through a nice neighborhood. It takes about 20 minutes, and I'm back.
It's not overkill, where I don't feel like doing it everyday......it's nice and easy and gets me some good excercise. I go to work already feeling energetic.
At work, all I allow myself is a half sandwich with no cheese, a pickle, and iced tea.

I've been doing that regimen since Feb/March, and I'm in the same shape I was in my late 20's. No love handles, no fat butt, no moobs, no double chin. Now, it's 32/34 inch jeans, a washboard stomach, and looking in the mirror actually makes me happy for once.

Make a committment. What works for me is chicken, vegetables, water, and bicycle.
The weight comes off fast if you can just stick to it.

So tell me, no breads ,like a sandwich? How about dairy, milk and cheeses? I mean I have cereal everyday and sandwiches at lunch. What about coffee?

Nice work. My metabolism changed when I was about 26, and I suddenly went up to about 82kg from my previous 74kg (at 5'11). Which would be fine if it was all muscle, but unfortunately it was all fat.

I changed my eating and hit the gym regularly, slimmed back down to about 74 then worked up an extra few kgs of muscle.

Having energy when you go to work makes an incredible difference huh.

Exactly how do you avoid high fructose corn syrup in the US? It's everywhere.

    Besides, I LIKE food.

Sport is good to motivate you, but a thing that really helped me was small goals.

Dont say "I wanna loose 40lbs in 1 year"... Instead go the 5lbs in 1month or 2months, accomplish the small goals and it will all come easier in the end.

I am 6'2 and had the same problem as GJ. I hit the sugar cannon hard, 4,5 litres of coca-cola per day, 1-2 bags of chips and add 2packs of dextrose/glucose tables a day, and you had my diet. A doctor took some tests and everything was WAY off the charts, and basically I had a choice... Continue this path and be lucky to see age 30, or change and live a healthy life. I choose the latter, and by simply running 3-5 miles per day, ab crunches and push ups, I have lost 17pounds of weight and gained alot of muscle. Went from 187 to 170Lbs.

I accomplished that by the small goals. Kick the dextrose tablets first, then the next thing etc.

I still eat sandwiches with cheese etc, but I counter it all by heavy work out.
