One day, I had chest pains and generally felt crappy. A friend hooked me up to his portable blood pressure machine. We both freaked out because my blood pressure was off the charts, and I felt like I was having a panic attack that day. It was all due to my diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and hard liquor. I hit the end of my rope that day.
When I'm scared, I tend to have more willpower to correct a problem....especially when it's related to my health. I did something that day. I said, I'm going to make a list of what I can and cannot eat. I cut down on sodium and booze. I promised myself I'd exercise everyday, even if I hated it. I also knew I didn't want to get married, looking unhealthy. This was back in February....the beginning of me getting restored back to the way I was in my 20's.
So, the diet is this.....chicken breast, fish, vegetables, water, tea, juice....and a few beers here and there. That's it. Almost no carbs, except the occasional rice or pita bread. And definitely no junkfood, fastfood, cookies, or soda.
5 days a week, I wake up in the morning, put on my bike shorts, and ride 6 miles down a safe bike path through a nice neighborhood. It takes about 20 minutes, and I'm back.
It's not overkill, where I don't feel like doing it everyday......it's nice and easy and gets me some good excercise. I go to work already feeling energetic.
At work, all I allow myself is a half sandwich with no cheese, a pickle, and iced tea.
I've been doing that regimen since Feb/March, and I'm in the same shape I was in my late 20's. No love handles, no fat butt, no moobs, no double chin. Now, it's 32/34 inch jeans, a washboard stomach, and looking in the mirror actually makes me happy for once.
Make a committment. What works for me is chicken, vegetables, water, and bicycle.
The weight comes off fast if you can just stick to it.
