    Default Is Drop Db Safe?

hey everyone i once heard that leaving your guitar in drop tuning can really mess things up, i will be playing in drop Db (drop d 1/2 step down) is this aight??? or will i be messing something up by leaving it in this tuning.

do i need to get a truss rod adjustment or something just to be on the safe side?

    thanx...

It does no damage to a guitar. The only problem you might have is getting the action and intonation right at that tuning. Baritone guitars usually have longer scale necks so you can get the intonation and action set correctly with heavier strings.

On a quality 25.5 guitar you should be able to tune down to B and even A with correct string guages and have little issue.

You'll have no problems. As stated above, you might want to reset your intonation to that tuning.

One time, I tuned down to A, and the guitar tried to stab my dog.

My SG used to be really depressed. It wouldn't eat and it didn't like goin for walkies.

Slapped some .13's on and tuned it down to C standard and it's like a whole new guitar. So alive and full of life!

who told you it messes things up? they probably own a terribly assembled instrument.

My EBMM Silhouette Special handles Drop C# very well. The intonation does stray a liiiiittle bit but I think that's more due to the fact that it needs a fret dressing more than anything else.

well, i just heard that it can warp the neck over time. Should i adjust the trussrod slightly or leave it alone?

If you use a slack tuning as your preferred tuning, pick out a string gauge which compensates for the change in tension. After tuning up, the adjustments to the truss rod, bridge, saddles, etc., may be minimal.

My Epiphone baritone has a 27.75" scale, and my Strat and Tele both have 25.5" scales. I use B-standard tuning for all 3 of these.
