Online's a little less stressful.. but not by much. I think what annoys me most is that taxes are already taken off my income before I touch it, then with the money I have left, it's taxed too, later. I read that over 33% of the money we 'own' is taxed out of us. Could be worse - we could be Belgium, where 55% is taxed out of them.

Timmy you shouldn't be paying any taxes if you're in university unless you're making a lot of money for a student. Take the minimum taxable amount, ~9000, add on to that the cost of tuition, university bus passes, whatever other tax breaks they give us, and you're only getting taxed on what you make over like 16 grand a year. If you're going to get all the money back at the end you might as well opt out of having income tax taken off each paycheck, that way the money is yours to do whatever you'd like with during the year, like investing and making money off that.
I've never found it that difficult to do taxes... Just get a program like QuickTax or something, fill in the values, print it off and mail it in. Takes about 15 minutes. You're all a bunch of crybabies.

Meh. I wonder how our roads/schools/military/fire services etc. etc. would look if we didn't pay our taxes.
Yeah it sucks but in a country with our population density against landmass, keeping infrastructure going is an expensive process.
I'll be quiet now lest I violate forum policy

How many levels are you taxed at? I'm simply curious if yours is anything like ours. The bigger the governmental agency, the easier the form is here. My federal form is easy as pie, but I've lived in small municipalities that have tax forms that need calculus degrees to correctly complete.

In New Zealand we're taxed up a a max of 39 cents per dollar in the top income bracket. That's just the income tax. Every time you spend any of your money you pay 12.5% of that money in tax again. If you spend it on petrol (or cigarettes, for that matter) you pay even more in tax.
I've had a few workmates from Denmark who said people were wanting their govt to reduce taxes there (an over 50% place). They also said the problem the govt faces is that over 50% of the population work in the state sector...reducing taxes means those people will need to start working in other jobs.
We used to have free education from our taxes, but don't anymore. We have excellent emergency health care, but waiting lists for elective care mean everyone who can afford to has insurance for private care.
Taxes are great when you see good results from them. People here in Manila seem to feel completely justified avoiding tax because the vast majority of money in the state sector is pilfered into the bank accounts of corrupt leaders.
In the same way, it bugs me that friends I have who are doctors and nurses in Auckland, NZ, complain about the lack of necessary funding, funding that has instead been flowing into 2000 extra middle management jobs in health boards overseeing hospitals, resulting in many more 'satisfaction surveys' and the like that the doctors and nurses have to fill in...![]()

Unless you own property, you have to complete a federal and a provincial return each year. If you use tax software, it will most likely do the federal and provincial forms in one shot using the info you provide, since federal and provincial income tax are tied into each other. If you own property, you pay property tax as well, which is a completely separate form of pain.

Use either uFile or netfile . . . as long as you keep your receipts, know how much you make, and get your access codes in advance it's pretty straightforward. It usually takes me about 20 - 40 minutes and about 20$ to get the software to do it every year. . . and I do my fiancees income tax at the same time.
