"So you'll never have to listen to surf music again."

It's decent. They are guilty of piecing together different parts in songs just to be "progressive" it seems rather than focusing on songwriting. There were several moments where I thought "Why not just stick with that riff? That's a good riff" and then they play 5 new ones. It's a little over the top. They also rip themselves off in places and it's very obvious. If the sound quality is the same on the CD as I've heard online, that is not good as well. Doesn't sound right at all. I don't know enough about that to say what's technically wrong with it, but it just doesn't sound right. And of course the vocals, but everyone knows that.

I have listened to clips of a few of them, and I'm liking it. I'm gonna wait to get the cd tomorrow to listen to the whole thing, but that's pretty cool of them to post the whole thing.

I thought that too.. Obviously they have decided to turn around completely, compared to the Napster case...
And it sounds more promising than I originally thought about it. I do agree about different riffs being jammed together, but it might be that it grows after a while. I do wonder where they have hidden Rob though..

It's too sad if he's mixed down a bit.. He seems like a real good guy, and it would be terrible for him if his first album with the band he's been in for 4 years or something doesn't really show what he's doing.. We'll see when the CD comes..
It is better than Justice though.. (bass-soundwise)

The new song ALl Nightmare Long rocks!!!![]()
I just picked up the CD at a local shop. 4 of the first five songs rock. Flat out rock. I was blown away to be honest. The Day That Never Comes is the weakest of the first half.
I wasn't going to buy it but someone here said that the tracks they released were probably or definitely demos judging by the quality. While I dunno how true that is, I do know that the better production greatly improved The Day. Really the only part I hate with that song is the "the sun while shine, the sun will shine, This I swear" part. Its like ok we get the point. Say it once and move on.
Full review later.

I`m guilty of wanting Metallica to do another KillRideMasterJustice cd but I like a lot of the new cd. I never heard St. Anger , was it really that bad?

Finished with listening to My Apocalypse.. That track kicked my back.
St. Anger was bad mostly because the production sucked but the songs weren't necessarily the best either. There was some good old fashioned Metallica nuggets buried in that album but too deep and too few and far between to make it anything worthwile. It has a few good songs. Frantic wasn't horrible, St. Anger wasn't bad either. Sweet Amber and the Unnamed Feeling were pretty good as well. Other than it was mostly forgettable.
Oh and Lars forgot to pull the chain up on his snare for a song or two.

no suprise the 1st two songs seem to have kirk's wah stuck in the functioning positions![]()

I try to treat metallica as 2 different bands so i do not judge them in contrast to the more "metal" albums (pre black) in contrast to the more comercial stuff. I think my favorite song on St Anger was The Unnamed Feeling. I like some songs on here some not so much. But i mean these guys are pretty old and putting out some heavy music as apposed to many who mellow out over the years. Though i do long for an album like Master where i loved every song on the album.

I will take that 10 minute long instrumental for the big fat win, thanks.
A 10 minute instrumental? My favorite on there. The rhythms on that track are cool, they've got a gweoozhh sound to them. The beginning of Unforgiven III got to me a little too. Sounds like Re-re-load here and there (2x4, Ain't My B!tch sort of stuff), but I ain't complaining. That 10 minute instrumental makes up for a lot of minor quibbles.
