I love good classical (no (opera) singers pleeeeeease!) such as Bach, Beethoven, Sibelius, etc. Jazz is good too, but not nearly as good as classical. And Aceman WTH did you think when you wrote that the shredder in you likes jazz more than classical ? Have you ever tried to play some Paganini, Bach or other stuff ? I would even say that classical music was a very important factor in the birth of rock shred guitar, and I think that Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore, Uli Jon Roth, Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman would agree.

Have you seen Yuja Wang? She's this 20 year old from (I think) China. She does some terrifying stuff with Volodos transcriptions. Look her up on Youtube.

Yep i've heard some of her stuff. I think she lacks the variation of tone colour that Volodos has.

    Insane player.

Wang is great too though. In 10 years' time she could be considered as good as Martha Argerich and Mitsuko Uchida.

I haven't seen Volodos...Hamelin is probably the only internationally known one I've seen live in concert. The first recording of this concerto I ever knew quite well was Byron Janis, back in the 50s or 60s I think.

It was nice to be able to experience the piece played well, live.

One of my classmates did Rach 3 for his 3rd year performance exam. He was probably the second best pianist in our year...the top one receive 9 scholarship offers across the US and Europe, and ended up turning down Juliard to go to Indiana (a better tutor for her needs).

Uni was great for the chance to see some excellent playing for free...

Probably more jazz than classical but definately not the kind of jazz where they just do really fast chromatic runs and pretend it's music.
