about the Xbox 360! Which models do I need to look out for? I've heard some of them are less than reliable. I've got a freind that may trade one to me and I just don't want to end up with a burnt out peice of scrap metal!

Meh, at worst you send it back when it RROD's and get it new guts. Takes about 5 days.

They're ok. I like Sony Playstation but some of the coolest games are for X-Box. I haven't seen reliability issues with them. When they first came out but now they're pretty good. Don't get a used one. Go to a game store and buy the display model that's in good shape because you know it works and withstands the dumb little kids banging away on it, and you can get a better deal w warranty!

If he didn't register it, you're okay. If he did, and something goes wrong, tell him to send it in, it'll be free. 3 years I think is the term.

If you get the Xbox, you need to get the game Stubs the Zombie. And if they have God of War 2 for Xbox, get that one.

do they play old xbox games?

Yeah, but it seems like one of the game systems was picky about the stuff it was backwards compatible with, and I'm thinking it was the 360.
I really shouldn't even be posting here. I just upgraded to a PS2 about 3 or 4 months ago, and only because it was $75 on craigslist.

I think that the older X360 systems had some serious reliability issues. I don't really know if there was any way to know if one of them was to go or not. It's a game of chance, take your pick.
If anything I recommend you choose a model with a hard drive in it. I find it much easier and less of a hassle with one.
I got a X360 pretty soon after they came up. I've been very pleased with it and I'd probably get another one if this one broke up. I had some reliability issues when one of my games (Bioshock, a must have) didn't work with my system. I called Microsoft and they promptly sent me a new hard drive 100% free. It seems that they have the warranty and customer support done well, but I don't know how well it extends to older systems. Maybe get one with some warranty still left?
There are two kinds of people in this world that go around beardless—boys and women, and I am neither one

All of the 360's have reliability issues. After all this time they still have not worked the kinks out of them from what I've read. It has something do w/ their cooling setup is and the solder they use. If they do die, Microsoft has extended to the warranty to 3 years. If moony has still has his receipt or has it registered, he can transfer the license to you.
I broke down and bought a buddy of mines not to long ago and it's a refurb model. I didn't pay much for it, though I hardly ever play it. So it will prolly last a long time.
They do play some of the orig. Xbox games, but the it's a limited list.
Gear: More junk than I know what to do with

I tell you everything you need to know about the 360.
It's great. You need one. I also need one.
I want: Dead or Alive 4, Virtua Fighter 5, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, Super Street Fighter 4, Oblivion, Gears of War 2, etc.
