    Default Lets talk Home Security

In a Guitar related sense specially.
I'm not worried about what happens when Im here at night.
I'll take my chances and I have the tools necessary to protect myself.
What I'm worried about is someone comeing in and grabbing alot of my stuff when im gone. The odds would dictate that sooner or later it WILL happen.
I am insured, but as we all know alot of are stuff is irreplaceable.
I am going to check into a home security alarm system.
Anyone know what they run per month and any info. on them?
I am also going to put motion lights on all 4 sides of the house, not just the two sides I have them on right now.
I do dterrent stuff, like leaving lights and radio on when I leave , and putting small girls bikes n the porch and a couple of big dog bowls ( i dont have dogs) and Beware of Dog " signs.
I also have a couple of vehicles parked out front at all times.
Finally, I am going to get a great big safe to put in the closet and bolt it to the floor and keep my guitars and soem other things in there.
I also try nevr to have anyone over that I am not 100% sure about in case they are trying to case the joint.
    What do you think?

    What do you think?

You've got your mace and stuff like that as you've posted before, like a big girl's blouse. And, judging by your post here, you're full of "dutch courage" 24/7.
So if anyone breaks in, spray them with mace, pull their hair and run away screaming like Ned Flanders.

I don't really understand why "small girls bikes" would be a deterrent though?
And why are you so paranoid? You make Philip K Dick look relaxed.

That's what Phil Dick said. And look what happened to that paranoid madman.

He became one of the greatest writers ever, loved by millions of readers, with loads of his stories made into blockbuster movies.

Hey....! You might be onto something here.........

Umm.... what makes you think that? I don't know the exact numbers, but I know that the vast majority of the people I know have never had any sort of break in.

If you're really concerned, get a dog that will bark when people approach the house, and lock your doors. People with barking dogs and locked doors rarely get robbed.

Why not hire some off-duty TSA personnel, (Like a rent a cop)

TSA know how to give people a hard time, they do so at airports all the time, in the name of Home Security...

A small girls bike? Are you trying to thwart thieves or attract pedophiles?

Thieves are looking for the easy way in. Eliminate any sort of entry that you could manage yourself, if you were trying to break into your own place.

I'm not worried about intruders when I'm home, because that won't ever happen....and if it does, it won't end well for them. I'm worried about when I leave, so all my windows are latched and reinforced with a metal rod. The door has a brass plate wrapped around and extra long screws into the frame....plus the best double lock setup, not the cheapest. I reinforced the air conditioning units as well, so they can't be pushed in or out. The main thing is proving to yourself that YOU can't enter. Always know that if you can figure it out, a burglar sure can.

I think all that will take care of it very well.

I have tons of insurance and sleep on top of an Ithaca M37

I am an apartment dweller (rent) though, so I can't go installing sensors.

I vote large dog. Any molosser breed will be superior in home protection. A big pissed off mastiff will scare away pretty much anyone, and if not they deserve the consequences. Sure pitbulls look scary and all, but they're total sweethearts when their owner is gone.

The dog doesn't even need to be big... just noisy.
