Default My old band's Wicked Game cover (dredged up for JB's thread)

    http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...?bandID=884765

This was originally recorded in the summer/fall of 2002. The band broke up and it never got mixed, but I managed to hold onto the Cakewalk 9 bundle file for all these years. JB's thread about Wicked Game covers being really bad reminded me of this, so I gave it a listen.

It's actually a really good recording considering how inexperienced we were. The drums came out amazingly well. I really hated the main rhythm guitar track, so I quickly re-recorded it with the Canadacaster into a Plexi Variac model in the Pod XT. It's a big improvement over the previous take. Everything else is the original audio from 2002 with some compression, EQ, and reverb. That's me on vocal - not a bad take considering I'm a pretty lousy singer.

I'm really proud of our version of this song. I think we really conveyed the intent of the original while giving it a new and unique flavor.

    Comments welcome!

sound awesome! Alot of talent there. Im a sucker for goth-rawk stuff though even if Issaak is the author, its gothic. Not bad vox! keep it up. did u do all the guitars too?

Alot of talent on this forum!

That's cool.... it sounds like more thought was put into it than "Let's heavy up a slow song!"

    Guitar tones are good, too.
Buy the book in my avatar. It's pretty cool.

Thanks guys. I did vocals plus all guitars. Bass player did bass, drummer did drums. When we did this live the bass player normally did the "This love is only going to break your heart" line but that never got recorded apparently.

Our goal was to be faithful to the original but make it sound pained and angry instead of sad and reflective.

MAN! that's a really great cover... I liked it a lot! only thing I'd change is to take out the stick-clicks towards the end... kinda anti-climatic IMO

Yeah, I really should do that. That was an oversight on my part. Maybe I'll take those out today and put up an updated version later. Thanks for pointing that out.

Cool take on that song. Took me a minute to place the song, but I like it.
