Default Classic EBay Shill Bid that happened to me

If youve never been hit by a shill bid in an auction you werer bidding one, than you may wanna take note.
This is a classic example of a dude getting his friend(s) to bid up the price on an item.
I played the game even though I had strong suspicions, then when i sensed his greed was peaking , i stopped interaction.
    Check the bid history.
    The guy who was the winning bidders' bid history on the item reads like;

"I want it..I want it, I want it".. then when he wins the auction he's like ; " I don't want it".
So i get a second chance offer, and that just cements my case.
I am going to finally report this to Ebay tonight.

WARNING! Shill bidding IS and alays HAS BEEN Rampant on Ebay. Ive been the victim many times and finally lrearned to stop putting in bids untill the very last second of the auction in most instances where significant money is at stake.
BTW , I am "626Doveplace" in the bidding history.
I think one of the biggest slap in the face and brutal disregard for clientle on EBays part was maeking it so you have no idea of the location or bidding history of Competeing bidders. Atrocious !...and done so Ebay could scarf more money at the hands of unscrupulous sellers.
They knew this when they did it. They arent stupid, but they ARE white collar criminals. I vacnnot believe this is allowed! Someone up there likes them!~

Sounds like you had fun! I love doing that to shill bidders. Usually works out as planned, although, I did get stuck with the item once.
I started out with nothing...and I still have most of it left.

Shill bidding typically ceases to be an issue when you're using a good sniping utility and you don't take the whole thing personally and get emotionally involved and end up putting up too much for the item.

I see it now and again but it doesn't really matter all that much to me. No one is forcing you to buy; even if you got caught up in it you can just say you don't want it.

Ebay has seemed to be sabotaging itself for the past several years. Who's running that ship? They're doing a good job of p1ssing off the majority of their dealers. So many stupid new decisions is quickly killing that place, and it's why Craigslist is SO happening these days.

One way feedback.....oh yeah, great idea!
Paypal only for newer Ebayer's. Paypal is a ripoff.
Immediate payment....good way to say goodbye to money order sales.
    Higher fees for dealers.
New sellers MUST be signed up with Paypal???

So many are leaving Ebay......who the heck is in charge there???

Or you could just never place a bid above the maximum you're willing to spend?

I was bidding on a Line 6 Bass Pod XT Pro last week. Totally low balling the guy because I didn't want to pay more and wanted to leave myself room to profit on a flip. I was willing to pay exactly X amount and not a cent more, so that's what I bid. I was winning up till the last 5 minutes when the proxies came flooding in. Someone was willing to pay more than I was, so they won. I didn't get upset about it, I said "Huh, someone was willing to pay more than I was...hope it's what they're after" and went on with my day.

    Exactly. That's how it works.

People always seem to forget that when they bid, they are saying "I agree to pay this amount for this item." Shill bids or not, that's exactly what you're saying. It's pretty pathetic to see people complain about having to pay a price that they themselves explicitly agreed to. Yes, you were fooled, and yes, it's dirty, but your own greed got you into this predicament.

I've only ever had one way of doing things as a buyer. Last second proxy sniper. You have the best odds of winning, and if you don't....oh well. I've never understood the idea of bidding early in the auction. You're just putting your name in lights, inviting people to help drive the price up, and saying come beat me!

    Exactly.

I bid to win, period. I load my snipe program, and do other things while the computer does the work.

Exactly. I've never bid on something with more than 10 mins before close. Otherwise, i search for BIT auctions that I like.

If you get scammed on ebay, it's usually your fault. You don't buy stuff too expensive or sell too cheap without approving it, so what's your point?

Actually, I got my fave Les Paul clone that way....

Before most had been clued in as to how great they were I was up late and doing some drinking and threw in a bid for an axe with about 5 days left in the auction.

I almost completely forgot about it when I won the auction days later!
