For those of you who like to create a natural rhythm to accompany your playing, the Stompin’Bass is the perfect solution.

The Stompin’Bass has a unique and compact design that is very robust and road worthy with a high quality Shadow NanoMAG pickup system. It will not only upgrade the sound of solo artists but of any band without a percussive instrument. Made out of chosen rosewood which is often used for high class bass guitars the Stompin’Bass works as a fantastic bass or bass drum accompaniment to your acoustic band.

The Stompin’Bass is both versatile and easy to use. The slanted top gives a player comfort and easy use with the foot. You can either play it by using your toes or your heel. The underside of the Stompin’Bass is covered with a special anti-slip material.

We have added a removable extension so that your foot is in a more comfortable position for playing long periods. The extension is attached via industrial Velcro so it can be removed easily if it is not desired for playing.

Because of the NanoMAG pickup and the active electronics inside the Stompin’Bass supplies, unlike other similar percussive products, a full, deep and warm bass sound. As it is a humbucker, it is free of 50/60Hz hum. A completely shielded case and low impedance output protect it from outside magnetic disturbances and makes it totally hum-free.

The electronic circuitry is powered by a single 9V battery with extremely low power consumption. The battery turns on automatically, as soon as you plug the instrument cable into the endpin jack. To prolong battery life, take the cable out, when not in use.

To replace the battery lift up the case of the battery compartment and install a new 9 V battery. Note correct polarization.

Depending on your equipment and its EQ setup, the material of your shoes and how hard you stomp you will get different sounds.

The Stompin’Bass has a standard output jack which can be plugged straight into any PA or EQ, pedal, guitar amplifier you like, to produce the tone and volume which best suits your style.

Those types of gadgets are pretty cool. I played one once, it was a big board though, and while playing acoustic, it's really great for giving what you're playing a steady beat. That is, if you can tap your foot steadily in time while playing. They're not hard to DIY either. I've seen a few plans out there.

So it's a transducer in a block of wood?

I watched the video. The thing sounds TERRIBLE. All it seems to do is make a really compressed low frequency pop. Not surprising at all considering what it is.

If it were MIDI capable, it could be used to trigger a drum machine (or anything really) and then it would probably be useful.

You miss the point of what the purpose is. He's plugged in to a PA. Without that type of block, you would hear his voice and guitar only, nothing keeping the beat. Those acoustic beat boxes allow amplification of tapping your foot to keep the beat while playing. I see acoustic players around here using things like this all the time. Some use the fully acoustic ones that project the thump, others use one that plugs in to the PA like this one.

Oh, I understand the point ... I just think it has a terrible sound. It doesn't sound like a foot stomp, a kick drum, or anything good at all. It's basically the same sound you get when you tap the grill of a mic (which, for all intents and purposes, is exactly what you're doing by stomping on this thing). I had to stop watching the video because the popping annoyed me so much.

I see your point there, makes sense. It's all about the EQ too. Those things need to be EQ'd to sound right. I've thought about seeing if I could get one to work using an old pickup.
