I've helped out the economy enough with all my gear purchases... granted, alot of them were used or trades, but still. Time to slow it down! Plus, a magnet swap can make more of a tonal difference than a new pup, especially with lower output PAF types.

I will definitely try the foil, and I'll report back to this thread when I do. I'll probably try swapping in one A8 to the bridge at first, and maybe an A3 in the neck for funsies (could use some more treble).

Okay, I finally got around to addressing the hum problem in my PRS Soapbar.

The foil helped the buzz, but barely. On the high gain channel of my Spider, it still buzzes and hums like a fiend unless I'm facing directly towards or directly away from the amp, even with the Spider's built-in noise gate.

On the other hand, the Virtual PAFs on my Les Paul only slightly hum, an acceptable amount.

This is my "go to" axe for everyday playing, and that includes quite a bit of metal, so this hum has to go.

I put an A3 in the neck for an A3/A5 pair. It sounds pretty much the same except a little crisper highs and a sweeter, less stiff feel. The A8 in the bridge thickened the tone, it sounds spectacular with distortion, but a little harsh and stiff in the cleans.
