Default Bestbuy to sell Musical Instruments

The world is going to end soon. I know Bestbuy is a good place to get computer parts and TV's and movies, but Musical Instruments.

What respectable musican would buy stuff from BestBuy.

At least, for all you Guitar Center haters, Guitar Center was always a musical instrument store.

nothing new. They have been for years. First guitar I saw in there was a gibson. Not an epiphone, but a gibson, for like $200. This was shortly after baldwin bought them I think.
Cracked me up more when I saw a flanger in there though.

not a real gibson, its like their brand below epiphone... forgot the name... meistro or somthing. anyway yeah i just got a job at best buy and i am a self respecting musician that would shop there... and abuse my discount lol. but i gotta admit it will bein the media department... like cds video games and whatnot and thos people dont know jack about what they are selling. I think we bought out guitar center a while back, so its going to be somthing like a mini guitar center... hopefully with less douchy kids but i doubt it.

Oh I know. But nowhere on the box or guitar did it say anything but gibson.

EDIT : just looked, and they have Bogner ! I mean, whats going on ? I have friends that work there, I would love to see what the employee discount on this stuff is gonna be.

On the website they are selling high end stuff --- American Fenders, Fender Artist series, MIJ stuff.

This rollout started a long time ago, about 1 year ago at the very least (mainstream)

P.S. BestBuy is competing with Guitar Center, not working with them

P.P.S. Gibson has a low-priced guitar called the Melody Maker(about $400 retail), for those who don't know. I'm not saying that's what you saw, just noting that not all Gibsons are $2600.

I don't think they're going for the "musician" crowd per se. I think they're trying to appeal to beginners and hobbyists who like playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band and now want to try the real thing and don't want to pay too big of an entry fee, so to speak.

When I was just starting out, I shopped for by first axe in a JCPenny catalog that had electric no-name 1-pickup strat copies for $129.99 and SS 10W practice amps for $59.99. I didn't become a gear snob until 5-6 years down the line.

Hmmm I don't live in the States, but what's actually so bad about GC and MF? I never got that. I mean... we have some equivalent here which is actually good. They've got nice prices, Guitars will get a setup before being shipped... stuff like that.

Old news. This started happening months ago. Couple of the guys here live near stores that already converted and have seen Marshall JVM half-stacks, Les Paul Standards... Roland keyboards... that sort of thing in there.

    Personally I welcome it.

A box store is a box store.

I never buy guitars at box stores, but I do get strings & picks from them sometimes... and going into a GuiTarget is usually an aggravating experience at the best of times. One time it took almost half an hour for the kid to ring me up because I paid with CASH instead of a credit card. He had to run off and find managers and change...

If I can get strings and some cables at Best Buy and be in and out in 15 minutes or less then I'm TOTALLY sold.

About two weeks ago I was in a GC trying an Egnator Rebel and some phat greasy hippie kid yelled at me to turn down when the master volume wasn't over 9 o'clock.

    Screw GC.

Hope they go under like Mars music did.

I may have to check into this. Are the prices any better than GC's?

Sweet!! I have a Beast Buy less than a mile from my house. I wouldn't have the slightest twinge of conscience going in there, cranking up a $2000 amp that I have no intention of buying, and gratifying myself at the expense of the other shoppers (though at my age, my playing has gotten a bit less annoying than that of the 14 year olds wanking away at any GC).

Who knows? With high end amps like that right around the block, if they throw in a 1 year same as cash credit offer, and if gas stays under $2.50/gallon, they might even get me to by a Bogner or Egnator head!

this could be handy, only if my local store don't carry what I want.

Which location would that be, Kosh? I was recently at the Brookfield store and it was the first time I saw any instruments in a BBY. And it was all low end crap, keyboards and empty shelves. While they may officially be a distributor for good stuff, I wouldn't expect to see any high end musical gear at most locations. I can't picture them moving many Bogners from the Southridge or Mayfair locations. They can hardly sell high end home audio from those locations.

What respectable person would buy anything from BestBuy? They totally suck. Overpriced, over hyped and pushy clerks working for commission that will tell you anything to make a sale. The only reason they stay in business is that lots of people are too stupid/lazy to find good prices on the things they want.

Yeah, I've seen that stuff at the Brown Deer location. Cheapy, broken SG, LP and Strat knockoffs.

I'm real close to the Mayfair location. Haven't seen any instruments at that store yet.
