Peavey try to imitate or equal the good clean tone of Fender.
Fender is the reference and not looking to be like anyone.
The original is the best. Fender all the way.

IMO, Peavey Classic 50 4-10" has a much better OD sound whilst the Fender Deville 4-10" has a little bit nicer clean.

I guess it depends which is more important to you.

Also if price is an issue, the Peavey is less expensive.

I'll agree with that, although the clean channel on the Classic 50 is the best I've ever heard from a non-Fender amp. Peavey also has much better customer service, although I doubt you'd ever need it. I had mine completely disassembled while I was modding it, and I must say that the Classic 50 is one solidly constructed amp.

    fender

leave effects to pedals, you won't get anywhere without a good clean

This is a case where Peavey is a better choice than a Fender...

    But not by much!

I have always considered Peavey to be a poor man's Fender.

If there's one thing Fender CAN'T do, that's distortion. If you want good decent cleans as well as distortion, get the Peavey. If you want good cleans the most, get the Fender and a boss DS-1 pedal, those sound nice throough the clean channel.
