Can I run 1 active + 1 passive

With a separate volume for each, on one three way switch? Will there be any strange interaction between say a 25k volume for the active + a 500K volume for the passive, under the assumption that I will never run the middle position on the switch?

should be ok, youll still obviously need a stereo jack

^^ +1, as long as you´re not using the middle position nothing unusual should happen

That said, using the middle position wouldn´t cause any sort of damage, just might sound a bit wierd... but that "wierd" may be your "perfect"

Yes, I have heard that EMG's sound "wierd" combined with other pickups.

Duncan Livewires are supposed to be fully compatible with passive pickups. IIRC, an extra resistor was needed to prevent the imbalance between the higher value pot on the passive pickup and the lower value one on te LiveWire.
