Default Telecaster Esquire Q'pounder and P Rail idea

Im totally new to wiring etc but have an idea to put an esquire tone capacitor kit into a tele with a SD Quarter pounder in the bridge but also adding a P Rail to the neck.

What Im thinking is if I add a 5 way switch and mini toggle for the P Rail can i get positions 1-3 for the esquire tones, position 4 one esquire tone and P Rail together and in position 5 the P Rail (with the mini toggle engaged in position 4 and 5)

    Does that make sense? :o)

Any suggestions i.e. if you think the QP is too hot to mix with the P Rail or suggestions about going series or parallel (if that's even an option)? Would I have to change out the tone pot to handle the P Rail? Im a noob so forgive my ignorance.

Over to you guys and your collected experience

Thank in anticipation of your suggestions/ideas.

    k

    Welcome to the forum.

Let me try and understand the positions you are seeking...

    1) Quarter Pounder, no tone pot
    2) Quarter Pounder, middle esquire position (tone pot engaged)
    3) Quarter Pounder, third esquire position (no tone pot, but adds 2 capacitors and resistor to circuit)
    4) P-Rails, tone pot engaged
    5) P-Rails, no tone pot

The mini-toggle, I assume, is to get rail/series/P90. That switch will be completely independent of the 5-way, no concern there.

If that's right I'd have to look at it. At the very least you'd need a 2P5T switch.. a standard 5-way will not work in this instance. It may require a 4P5T switch (aka a Superswitch). It should be relatively easy with a superswitch, but I'd have to look at it more closely.
Duncan Pickups in currently in use: '59 (rewound to PATB-3)/'59, Custom 5/AP2H, Tapped QP set for Tele, Duncan Distortion, SP90-1/SP90-2

Yeah that much sums up what I'm thinking

    1) Quarter Pounder, no tone pot
    2) Quarter Pounder, middle esquire position (tone pot engaged)
    3) Quarter Pounder, third esquire position (no tone pot, but adds 2 capacitors and resistor to circuit)
    4) P-Rails, tone pot engaged
    5) P-Rails, no tone pot

Im hoping to get maximum (within this context) options from my guitar sounds and switching options. Of course I can just go with the QP and the P-R but I really like the idea of esquire settings just for the sheer rawness i can get from it, and the diversity of the P-R which is looking like a real success story for SD.

I hope to get a tech to fit the pick up and wiring Im just really looking to know if its a good idea before buying the kit and an idea of how it might sound i.e if the two pick ups are an even match.

Thanks again for all the input MikeS

PS How those Bengals doing this yr?
