I was there with mom and my 2 brothers... June of 1969. My dad was in a tent on the infield, recording the whole show on a pair of 8-tracks. When the Isleys came out to close the night, much of the crowd bum-rushed the stage; someone got up on top of the grand piano and started dancing. Another 2 or 3 joined that one, and the Steinway went down.
The po-pos surrounded the stage, and the MC told the crowd still in the stands to start chanting, "Get off the field! Get off the field!"
The following week, there was a picture in Jet magazine (sister publication of Ebony). That piano was nothing but match sticks. Dad said he had to rooster-block some of the mob so he could save the tape machines.

The original post asked for our favorites, which in my case are different than those I like best. But wow - some great suggestions all in one place! A few thoughts:
Tone4 - BOC has a few live ones. I DO NOT like Some enchanted evening. I think ETL is their best and my fave.
KISS ALIVE vs ALIVE II - Alive is their best, and a top 10 live albums of all time. But my fave is ALIVE II.
Rush Exit stage left - Can't belive I didn't list that!!!!
Lot's of love for Maiden!
No love for Priest - Unleashed in the East?
And REO a Decade of Rock - the live side, gives a great example of how they can rock that most people don't know.
Is there a bad show at Budokan? Anyone?


Most of these are great albums. My picks would be the crowd favorite Allman Bros. Live at the Filmore East and one nobody thought of,Grand Funk "ON TIME" What a great album. One of the greatest power trios of all time, yet the don't get the deserved recognition.IMHO! Give it a listen.
I usually hate live albums but Slayer's Decade Of Agression is the one and only I like and is also responsible for sparking my love affair with them way back then.

It was recorded after Allen Woody died and the guest bass player list is amazing -
Victor Wooten, Jack Cassady, Roger Glover, Mike Gordon, Rob Wasserman, Jason Newstead, George Porter Jr.+ more ,+ the dirty Dozen Brass Band, Bernie Worrell, Sonny Landreth and David Hidalgo for icing.
