Even if you get mock security system stickers that can help. A real one is better of course. A big dog works, but isn't always a viable solution if you can't have one on the property or have allergies. The renters insurance was a GREAT call... cheap and can pay off!

One thing I do is keep my bangers out in the living room. My mexy strat and my MG marshall. Now I do not want them stolen, but if it looks like that is what I have (as compared to my Explorer and BIG marshall in bedroom closet hiding) they may not look as hard. My dogs are also trained professionally, but in todays society that may actually get me sued (insert emoticon here).

All in all there are several smart things you can do, but fate will always take place... NEVER say 'nah it can't happen'.

It's not that hard to NOT advertise that you don't have a slew of gear. Most of it starts with not dragging it all out onto the back lawn for photoshoots at regular intervals.
