    Exclamation URGENT HELP! SG recomendation!

After getting my custom guitar (the orange one) im not in love anymore with my Gibson SG, the other one sounds and feels better IMO...

So i decided to sell my SG cause i dont want to have expensive guitars that DONT sound better than cheap ones, its pointless for me...

But i really like SGs and was looking to buy another SG type guitar...

Which Epiphones, or other brands do you recomend? Of course, ill do PUP swap, but i want a solid guitar with good body woods and good construction, i dont need a lot of details like binding and gold hardware or stuff...

just a simple SG with potential to sound good with a PUP swap

    COLOR IS NOT IMPORTANT

SAME NECK PROFILE AS THE GIBSON SG STANDARD IS WHAT I WOULD LIKE!!

the g-400 is alright, but it has 2 neck profiles: a vintage, round profile on the painted model and a flat profile on the faded vintage model. either are pretty good for the price, and good candidates for upgrades and whatnot.

Santa bought me a 2001 Japanese Tokai SG, I really like it its very resonant when unplugged and the Gibbo 57 pickups that the previous owner put in are very raunchy! Neck profile is like a baseball bat, don't know how that compares to a Gibson
I only know 3 chords but I play 'em real good

    A USED/Pre-Owned FADED . . . like mine !

Got mine with NOTHING on it, only the body & neck.
    Got it for a steel.

Stoner Rock and Stoner Metal are interchangeable terms describing sub-genres of rock and metal music. Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo, low-tuned and bass-heavy. It incorporates elements of Psychedelic Rock, Blues-Rock and Doom Metal into a more repetitive and riff-centred style. Melodic vocals and 'retro' production are also common traits.

actually, the standard model is closer to gibson's imo, whereas thier thin profile feels like a shredder neck, extremely thin and out of place.

I've got a few of the Epi G-400's and am very pleased with them. The quality & workmanship have been consistently good. I've upgraded PU's in all of the, and they sound great. With a retail of $300 to $400 new, they're a great value, and when you get a used one for less than that, how can you go wrong.

The red or black '62 G-400's are the most common, and there are good deals on them. You get a mahogany body & neck, grover tuners, tune-o-matic bridge, trapezoid inlays, & 4 pots. What's not to like?

There's the Gibson faded Specials, but previous comments on this forum about them have been mixed, and you may not really get much more than you would with a G-400 with upgraded PU's.

I agree, for a budget SG or budget guitar in general, you cannot beat the Epi G400. My cousin got one for xmas, and it plays and feels just like my Gibson Standards. After a pup swap, i'm sure the sound will come close, if not 100 times improved over stock.

Have you tried a pup swap in your existing SG? If its the one in your avatar, I'd keep it bro. that guitar is hot and in a rare color. I'd do a pup swap and see if that help improve the tone.

the faded's are nice, but I don't see a reason to get one if you're not pleased with your standard.
If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane.

I agree. My daughter has one of the black G400's. I play it more than she does. Very solid guitar and the pickups are decent although I'm sure a swap would be in order. Neck feels alot like my Gibby LP Studio.

+1. And if you can get a nice G-400 for $200 to $250 that's used or a 2nd, how can you beat that? In this economic tailspin, there's going to be a lot fewer people dropping $1,000+ on guitars, with all the foreclosures and layoffs. G-400's are going to look better and better. Epi has so many set neck SG's to choose from now. I really like mine.
