Does anyone here have any experience with OR can point me towards some reading material on how to add pinstriping or racing stripes to guitars?

i just penciled in a graphic and kept rubbing it off until i liked how it looked, then traced it with a real pinstripe(sharpie in my case). however, i did that on a faded guitar, and i don't think that would do well on a glossed finish.

I don't want anythign sharpie or rub-on graphics related. I'm talking about actual painted graphics.
Where's butnut? He'd know.

Talk to cool sign shop in your area they usually have a good striper around.
Doing it yourself is an option and there are some tricks but I'd do a lot of practice on stuff you don't care about first.
Prep is minimal and similar to what they would do on a car for pins. If you want to do wide racing style stripes it is more involved to put down paint ,honestly I would look at using 3M vinyl for them.
What guitar you looking to do?

My buddy made this page which I posted on his site, although it's about mopeds, I do tell how to do graphics, both of Watts guitars are there too....good luck. No prob on the donut.

I feel like ditching the Kawi for a moped now!

There's a guy in Covina, CA who's really good at pinstriping. Paints cars, bikes, etc. Goes by the name of Buck. Nice guy.

I'm currently giving my Les Paul a cosmetic makeover... I took this:
And I added black Grover locking tuners and black strap locks. I'm getting a black pickup switch ring/switch tip and black speed knobs for it as well.
I thought it might be cool to do a racing stripe kind of like this one shown here... interestingly enough this was the exact style and positioning I had in mind before I even found this pic.
Tell me more about this 3M vinyl stuff...
Thanks, I'll take a closer look at that when I'm home, looks great.
Oooo... will check out. Thanks!

3M makes a vinyl that is used for the car wraps and whatnot. It is also packaged for laying the racing stripes down on cars in various widths.

Man, I dig that Tom DeLonge ES...good luck, I think like Watts, remove all the hardware and lay some nice vinyl stripes, unless ya really wanna paint. Pins are good for fineline stuff, racing striped need to be sprayed on.
