A Parker Nitefly M (mahogany body, mahogany core in the neck).
And yeah, by squish you mean a blooming note or something? I did notice it, and tripped me out a bit - very cool!
Thanks for convincing me to try this!

Yup! It definitely turned my head when I heard that effect! Sounded like a faint compressor that made the note bloom a bit. I'm off to playing with a band today, so it'll be interesting to see how it'll cope there. I'm guessing it will sound good there as well!

All right, this weekend I have confirmed that the C8 works for me!Now I can use the bridge pickup a whole lot more -- love it for rhythm and lead playing.

Yeah, the original Dimarzios that were in my Nitefly M weren't very hot either. Good for clean playing, not so much for something on the more gainier side..
Any Artist sounds you could compare the C8 to?
I just ordered one of these off a forum bro and was just wondering about the clean tone.
It seems like these pickups would be really friendly to alternative types of guitar playing and I just want to know how they deal with a clean channel and modulation effects and delay.

My Custom 8 is very present when played clean. Something like a less sharp EVO, sweet and biting upper mids, but without a sharp high end edge.

That sounds like something really desirable. I'm really curious for its arrival now, haha.
But the pickup isn't too hot in the sense where it's difficult to pull a clean tone at all with the pickup? I had a pickup that did that before that pushed my amp way too hard and made it almost impossible to have a clean tone.

No, don`t worry.
Actually, it sound pretty good clean with volume on ten, but if you roll it slightly off, you`ll get great cleans.
When I want even more sparkle, I split it (push/pull pot) and engage preamp built in my guitar (another push/pull) which is preset to raise volume level to "default" level in humbucking mod, so I can go back and forth without volume drops and achieve almost perfect cleans. Bottom line is that (in my ears) I get better cleans with Alnico 8 than i did with ceramic, and bit more compressed but much more present than with Alnico 5.
That's a really interesting idea for the preamp thing. However, I'm trying to go a more pure/direct route and just have it wired straight to the volume pot.
That's really great, though. I'm looking forward to this. I'm sure it'll do well with a high-gain amplifier, won't it? (Mesa Dual Rec)

Well, dense amp and a full sounding pickup, it should be a great match. Let us know how it sounds.![]()
I wish I could hear more examples of the pickup, haha.
I only found one clip up on Youtube and it's pretty hard for me to judge.

I wish I could post clips.. Sorry. Even with clips, you arent gonna know till you try it in your guitar, with your amp. Honestly, this might sound goofy, my explorer is absolutely addictive sounding to me now.. I cant stop playing it and Im a hack player. I just love the sound as I pound in power chords.. I am using the C8 in either 5 or 6 guitars now.. It has the same feel in each, but seems to really let the character of the guitar shine.
And it sounds suprisingly good clean considering it is a "hot" pup. tone open even, but roll it down and its sweet.
May or may not be for you, but try it and let us know....
I'm sure it'll be something I definitely like. Especially for the kind of stuff I do. I had a Custom in a guitar before that was good, but just lacking something. It pushed my amp just the right amount to where it wasn't over-saturated.
But I'm looking for a pickup to match with this one, preferably something from Lace. I'm sure not many players from here know about (or rather just play) Lace, but I'm looking for a fat/twang-y single coil sound in the neck pos that'll not have too much of a drop in volume when switching from the C8 to it.

I did the C8 from a C5. I have one general question though. It seems I am more prone to squealing feedback. Do I need to re-pot the pickup? Or is that the magnet?

you may need to heat it up with a hair drier to get the wax flowing. also make sure you tightened up those four screws on the bottom.

Shameless plug, I know, but I just recorded a solo with the C8 in bridge position (mind you, it's only the solo). http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/s...d.php?t=170559 I'm playing with a Parker Nitefly M (mahogany body), straight into a Mesa F-50, pretty neutral treble and bass settings, but I've emphasized the mids a fair bit.

When I first swapped the ceramic for an A8 I thought the pup was too bright and hot. Once I tweaked the amp it sounded killer!
Clips: (forgive the slop. Also my D string kept going out of tune as I had just changed the low strings):

(the intro to the second clip was me playing around with parallel wiring with a the inner coil of the C8 and inner coil of a '59... sounds ****in' sweet IMO)

I touched on this topic in another board for my Les Paul 100.
Anyways I don't have a Custom 5. But I'm liking more of what I'm hearing about the Custom 8. From what I'm seeing though most are swapping magnets. But I don't see an actually "Custom 8" on the website. I see an Alternative 8 so I'm assuming that's the pickup everyone is talking about.
