    Default Virginia Tech

    Another murder.

I'm sure most of you have heard, but it may help to talk about it.

A 22 year old girl was decapitated Wednesday night at Virginia Tech.

I am very solemnly trying to take this without becoming angry.

Some of you may remember, I was one building away during the April 16, 2007 massacre. I do not feel traumatized by it, but I do feel very frustrated that this has happened again, at a place that I equate with happiness.

My goodness, I can't imagine anyone just do anything so heinous like that. I try living day by day with an active hindsight of how treacherous this world is. May peace be with the victim and her family.

My thoughts and sympathies totally go out to family and friends of the victim. What happened is truly horrible. I never know what to say when things like this happen....you can't really express how messed up it is.

They were drinking coffee? and he decapitated her in the coffee shop???

Sounds like another psychopath. Remember the greyhound bus incident? This sounds exactly the same...

Sounds like we need to get a grip of what causes this mental condition and learn how to cure it.

Virginia Tech is going to get a reputation, and Asians are going to get a reputation.

I am pretty afraid of what may happen to the Asian communities at Virginia Tech, as far a prejudice in the future. (bear in mind both this murder and the 32 murders on 4/16/07 were by Asian male students older than 22.)

that sucks dude. on a slightly off note, i read the comments on one of the news page, and the people commenting there shouldn't be allowed to be commenting:
'it's all george bush's fault' is one of the comments

Ewwww. An article said when the police showed up he was holding her head. I'm just having trouble seeing how anyone but Jet Li could go from Latte to "holding" head that fast?

That's really sad. My wife can't stand the whole beheading concept in the middle east either. I guess it was ilke that guy who did the same thing on the bus a while back.

Were they hidden during the attack, or was this happening in front of people?

Apparently right there in front of people.

I'd like to think if I were there, I would get in there and try to prevent what was going on, but how we think we'll react and how we actually react are often very different.

Well sure, something awful and violent is happening all the time. We have over 6.5 billion people on the planet, and over 300 million in the U.S. I'm sure many other people were killed violently on the same day in this country, but it's the location and the way she was murdered that really make it bizarre and news-worthy.

No news channel or website would stay in business if they highlighted the good things in society all the time. But fortunately for us, the good things are the norm, and the bad things are the weird and ugly exceptions.

In 16th century Europe or China, someone getting decapitated wouldn't be so uncommon. Then again, they didn't have the gun problems that we do, so it's not really a fair comparison....

Or 20th century Saudi Arabia, so a workmate of mine who worked there for years attests. Pretty common in the public square.

There are those who would run, those who would look on horrified, and those who just wouldn't risk their skin for another human being. Very, very few people would remain level headed enough to be able to step in and stop it. Though, she was probably already dead by the time anyone would have realized what happened. Very sad indeed.

I would like to learn more about chain of events, I am sure she did not just give in to him, there had to be some 5-10 seconds moment where he had to subdue her, when she resisted, that was the time to intervene. However in our "progressive" times not every cafe is a flight 93.

"She has just the sweetest, bubbly personality," Beisecker said. "She really did make an impression with her warmth in just those two weeks."

How a person could do something like this is beyond my comprehension. I know it happens, but I don't understand it. At all.

I've re read the article many times over.
    It's still horrifying each time.
