use a little wooden block and a hammer and tap it out... may need to score the finnish around it first to prevent chipping in some cases..

thanks! i actually took off all the finish of this guitar, and it's just natural wood with a bit of wood sealer, so ... no finish to score

all you do is use a little block of wood and hold it against the nut angled from the fretboard side and tap the wood block with a hammer to break the glue under the nut.. just tap it back... it will not take much to get it out...

sometimes i was a 4inch piece of drowl rod for taping out nuts

cool. actually, what would you think of using another old nut as a dowel? i've got an old graphite nut and figured it'd be a good dowel-impersonator as i have none to speak of.

Find an old paint brush with a 2.5" to 3" width and a wood handle.

Remove the steel wrap and bristles.

Put the wide end on the nut and pop the skinny end (handle) with a mallet.

Yes, it is make your own tools time!

i totally would do paintbrush-diy-dowels if i knew where my old paint brushes were!
actually, what if i use a humbucker magnet? i've got about 8 spare magnets lying around, and 4 of them are a2. i'm sure i could sacrafice an a2 for the sake of a new nut....

you can use anything really... it's just using a soft smooth piece of wood will be less likely to cause any real damage if you slip..

Yep, I use a piece of paint stick myself. The key thing is tapping is not hammering. Very little force will remove it.
