Default quick wiring question- regarding wire itself

so i need some plain wire to use in one of my guitars. i was rummaging through what i already own, and found a bunch of solid wire. will this work just the same? ive only ever seen stranded wire used in guitar stuff, and dont wanna f**k anything up.

it should work, the distance inside of a cavity means short connections, so any resistance you'd meet with thinner/thicker wire would be negated.

    it depends.

if the wire will be flexed alot, I would go out and get some proper wire. If it's like from the switch to a pot or pot to pot then solid is good, although I've heard that the electrons move along the outside of each strand, so I guess stranded wire might give a better signal... I donno...

The only problem with using solid wire is if you are wiring something like a pickguard, where you might open up the guitar a number of times to change pickups.

I forget what I paid for mine, but wire is not exactly cheap.

When you get a chance go to Mouser or something and order some small spools of Black, White, and Red wire so you always have it.

That stuff is fine. I don't really like radiosmack stuff (seems a little on the cheap) but who's gonna know the difference?

I've used that stuff a bunch, and it's just fine.

I like cloth covered wire, but it gets to pricey, and who the hell can tell when the pickguard is on?

alright cool. ill go pick some up tomorrow (err...today, i guess technically).

i still need to track down some foam around for the battery anyhow, so its not like im wasting precious wiring time. haha.

i just got my wire from radioshack in the mail. i now know why the wire is so cheap! it's just plain ol' copper strands, without tinning. nothing wrong with that. the wrap on it isn't half bad either, just feels just as good as the stuff i get from stewmac.
