    Default Feebay banning money orders????

I just went to relist an item that ended a month ago. I noticed this message from the bottom:
    ------------
    Please review your item

It appears that you are offering money order as a payment method which is no longer permitted in the eBay marketplace. As of January 15th, we will be removing any items that offer this payment method within the listing. Sellers must offer to accept one or more of the following payment methods

    * Paypal
    * Credit or debit card processed through an Internet merchant account
    * Propay

Sellers may in addition offer to accept Payment Upon Pickup.

Please revise your listing by removing the banned payment method. Based on the safety concerns and input from the Community, eBay has established an Accepted Payments policy that clarifies eBay's position on payment methods.

For more information on the Safe Payments policy, please click on the following link:

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/...ts-policy.html
    ----------

Payment on Pickup? Feebay is HANGING ITS SELLERS OUT TO DRY!

Seriously, there needs to be a new marketplace ... this is getting ridiculous.

Amen! But whats more amazing, is I've learned that a money order is probably the SAFEST way to send money. Why? Because when you send a USPS money order, it is registered. They keep a copy of the signature of who cashes it. Furthermore, if you send the money certified mail, they send you back confirmation of delivery at the correct address. All this is registered with THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! Any money order scams, the post office gets involved.

This is all probably to allow ebay to withhold the money for items if they think there is a risk of a seller not shipping. LAME.

If this wasnt an item nobody wanted on here, I wouldnt be listing it.

That explains why my listing was deleted last week.....I also reposted an old auction that had "money order/cashiers check" in the payment instructions.

eBay has jumped the shark. As soon as a viable alternative comes along eBay will dry up and blow away.

The problem with craigslist is that you are reaching only a local area. Ebay reaches the entire nation... and sometime out of the nation. I just sold an amp to a buyer from Norway... I needed the money to pay off a new guitar and some christmas bills. Had it not been for ebay, I'd still be paying those off. So something needs to happen that is on a national scale like ebay, but with a more hands-off approach. Ebay was fine the way it was. They are trying to cater to the people who never owned a computer and now want to get on this hip new thing... you know, R-Tards.

One time I sold a Ronco "Set it and forget it" for someone else. When the buyer got the item he was upset that "it didnt come with the oven mits its supposed to". People dont understand ebay isnt a vendor... its a tag sale. Ebay is doing NOTHING to inform its buyers of this. They are going the exact opposite and are expecting sellers with day jobs trying to make a few bucks off an item they arent using to be held to standards of an internet business.

My biggest gripe is this money-holding BS that paypal pulls. The requirements to bypass it are ridiculous for even a regular eBay seller... only actual dealers who list on eBay could realistically meet them. I've been able to get my funds released early by calling and *****ing for a while, but only if the tracking number says the package was delivered.

What is this crap? That is NOT how a market works. You don't get to go live in your new house before escrow is up, and you don't drive a car off the lot until your loan goes through. Why the hell should the buyer be able to get the item before the seller gets the money? What happens if the seller needs the money from the sale to either A. ship the item in the first place, or B. pay eBay's ridiculously expensive fees?? This is all assuming you have a decent buyer... what happens when ******bag McBuyerGuy doesn't leave feedback???

I swear on my life, I've had this happen: I sell item, I ship item. Buyer receives item, messages me on eBay telling me so. Doesn't leave feedback, my money is not released by PayPal. I call both eBay and PayPal, they tell me to call the other because it's not their problem. I end up yelling. A lot. WHAT PART OF "BUYER SAYS THEY GOT THE ITEM" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND!? 'Well sir we can't verify that.' YOU ARE ****ING EBAY YOU CAN CHECK MY MESSAGES ON YOUR SITE.

I seriously never, ever, ever want to use that site for sales again. I'd rather not deal with them at all, but it's ****ed near impossible sometimes to get used gear in a timely manner without it.

I no longer sell anything on ebay that is not local pickup cash in hand. And I´ll openly dmit to almost always pulling my auctions so as not to pay even 1 unnecessary cent to the con artists at eBay HQ.

I used to love eBay... now I´d like to see it slowly destroyed, but they seem to be doing a good job at that without my help

why not list on ebay, and once you have an actual buyer just bypass ebay entirely by pulling the auction and having a money order transaction? i mean, i understand it's hard to advertise without ebay but why bother dealing with the actual purchase and shipping with them at this point....

craigslist CAN be used on a national scale but it is risky. the other guitarist in my band bought himself an electra outlaw from Denver and we're in Des Moines, Iowa. I thought he was insane sending money through paypal for something on CL but it arrived just fine.
With eBay, my main deal is that there is no recourse for sellers - it's all about the buyers. So I had someone leave me negative feedback because I charged him $5 for shipping and when he got it, it had cost $3. I had refused to give a refund for shipping so he left a negative. He wouldn't understand that I had to pay for packaging plus I pay a premium as I send everything through a friend who owns a packaging store (makes life easier and safer). So, I wimped out and refunded it - he took away the negative feedback. Isn't that sort of blackmail??? lol
So sellers can only leave positive feedback, or no feedback. Buyers can use this as leverage. It's not right.
Craiglist however is a different story. As there are no checks and balances, I've often advertised on there and had lots of people inquire about stuff - "sure, I'll come by at 4 to pick it up" and then never show. So CL has a massive amount of flakes. I've found that with my ads for guitar lessons as well.
Blessed is he who expects little for he shall not be disappointed.

Many years ago, you used to get great deals on stuff on eBay whenever you wanted. Need a rare Nine Inch Nails t-shirt for a fraction of what it cost new? What about a particular drum machine? Look for a minute, and it's there.

Now, cruising eBay is no different than shopping at Wal Mart or Best Buy. There are too many sellers selling all the same crap, the vast majority of which seems to be new. Plus, I bet well over half the stuff I search for is either not there, or it costs the same as (or more) than it would in a real store (plus outrageous shipping fees). If I want a cd or book, I'm more likely to find it and get it cheaper on Amazon.

After a few years of regularly watching Craigslist, meeting people who do the same, and trading/selling/buying locally, I wouldn't even consider buying gear off eBay. I have a circle of about 5 or 6 local Craigslist guys that regularly deal with one another, and within about a 30 minute drive. Plus, the scammers get weeded out super quickly this way.

I understand that it's not the same for everybody, and that sometimes a local person doesn't have what you're selling, but that is typically not the case for me. I'll happily be ashamed of having every transaction I enter into go completely smoothly, and be pretty certain the next one will be the same.

Do you talk to people on the phone? One of the things I've noticed is that when you actually speak with people, the flakage is reduced significantly.

I have never, ever purchased or sold anything through eBay. This is confirmation of my gut feeling. Although I'm sorry for all the problems everyone's had, I'm glad I never made the mistake of dealing with them.

I've had good success with ebay. My funds never get held either. I pay the extra fees of a Premium PayPal account but it sure reduces the headaches.

I've done the make a deal with a guy and pull the auction to save the final value fee too. That fee is bunk. I'd already paid $15 to list the guitar, I wasn't in the mood to pay another bunch of fees for the privilage of it selling.
