Default Does JB play well with single coils?

I've got an Ibanez with a H-S-H configuration, and I'm thinking about replacing the microphonic, squealy bridge pickup with a JB. However, how will my middle/bridge position sound? Will it retain the Eric Clapton "Cocaine" sound, or will the JB overwhelm the single coil, even when split? The pickup that was in there was pretty high-powered, even though this was a budget model. Opinions?

A JB won't necessarily overpower the single coil. It's definitely louder than a vintage spec single coil when humbucking, but when split it isn't really that much louder in my opinion. And you could go for hotter single coils as well.

yes it should be good with single coils. A lot of the kramer pacers back in the day had a H-S-S set up with a JB at the bridge. You should be ok

I've used a JB in the bridge with the stock neck and middle coils in an MIM strat before. Just play with the pickup heights and you'll be fine. The JB sounds great split too! All nice 'n twangy but still has some balls!

check how your SC is mounted first though, ie if it's screwed straight into the wood you may not have much scope for height adjustments; i had this problem with a JB in a MKIII LP

The ssl-5 & ssl-6 go pretty well with the JB. Also the JB jr and little 59 go pretty well. I have a Dimarzio Virtual Vintage 2.1 in the neck with mine.

I have tried the Fastrack II from Dimarzio and it sounds a lot like a full sized JB, so I would imagine a Fastrack I would sound good too, since the Fastrack I is the neck/middle companion to the Fastrack II.

I've got an SSL-1 in the middle of my Jackson SL3, with a JB in the bridge and it works a treat. And that's without a coil split on the JB, still sounds great.

I've also got a Distortion in another guitar (coil split switch too), with Fender single coils and again it works well.
