Further, I read that the deaths in Mexico were because those individuals didn't seek medical attention in time. So the lethality of the disease is even more in question.

Been there...had that in I believe 1976 or 1977, when I was a kid...nasty stuff...high fever, couldn't keep anything down, lost 10 lbs in about 3 days from vomitting and..well...other things. About the same time as "Legionaire's Disease" was in the news for those who may remember that as well.

My friend's ok, but she just told me she didn't even get checked at the airport, and she flew in on Saturday. Nothing. Not even a question or quick doctor's examination. They simply did not close the borders until it already was spread.

Nope. current head count of people wearing surgical masks is 6. 3 are also wearing surgical gloves. When I asked what they were going to do when they went to the can, they got a blank look on their face and mumbled something about safety and the flu. I wonder if they'll take a crap and then wash their gloves.![]()
Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

We have it in New Zealand now. Kids came back from a school trip to Mexico, sick with swine flu...

What I haven't heard is whether people who have this are being quarantined. Maybe they are, but I haven't heard of it happening. It just seems like common sense.

I just listened to a Doctor on CNN telling us to chill out a bit. So far, no one in the US has died. Maybe because past years flu shots have helped immunize us partially. He also stated that during the prime flu season, 100 people die A DAY on average here in the US from whatever that year's "normal" flu is.
Carnival is holding their cruise ships out of mexican ports for a week.

I'm going to take my wife and kids on the Ecstacy that is a 5 night run out of Galveston to two stops in Mexico, Progresso and Cozumel. Luckily, that's not till June 22nd week. Hysteria should have died down by then.
What really sucks is that Carnival boat that is skipping Cabo San Lucas in favor of San Francisco.

I simply love how optimistic the U.S. National board of health director was today.
"People gonna die" is pretty much the jist of it. Wow. Makes me feel better. How about trying something more along the lines of "I have confidence in the health system to help us overcome this outbreak with very little casualties." Geeze...be a little more positive...

It doesn't matter where the Carnival boat goes, really. It's evident that in a few short days, the thing became Global. Reminds me of a scene from the Kurt Russell "The Thing" or in "Andromeda Strain" (first movie), where they ran models showing the spread rate.
When, it's transmittable human-human short distances (i.e., the office), I'll be scared.
There's talk of "social distancing". The meaning is self-evident. For me it means I'm going totally green and riding my bike to work when I start to hear hacking on the bus. What'll make the workplace systems any better? Nothing.
I refuse to walk around wearing a mask.

Oh ya, one of the lawyers I work for works the cultural exchange/liaison office of the Local University, downtown. She's been sick for 4 days, bad. Perfect environment for that type of thing.

d00d, you missed the point regarding the cruise ships: an outbreak can CRIPPLE the ship AND have it stuck in port for days for sanitation. Then they would lose FUTURE customers for awhile. This could easily cost them millions of $$$. Wise choice by Carnival.

I have quite a twisted sense of humor. I picture like 100 mexicans all with masks running from side to side of the screen while being chased by a coughing man in a suit to the theme of yakety sax (a.k.a benny hill theme.)
I think for the most part this will blow over with minimal casualties though. We have decent enough health care over here.

According to CNN, theres now one confirmed Causality in the United States.
Its apparently a 23 month old kid, who is actually a Mexican citizen. From what they said, basically...The kid got sick in Mexico, and the Family brought the kid to the U.S. to get medical treatment. Then Said kid died.
So I dunno whether that should technically count as a Causality for the United States or Mexico?
Either way, its got me wondering why the **** they're still letting people come into the States from Mexico?
I mean seriously...If this is as bad as the CDC and WHO lead us to believe, you'd think they'd be shutting **** down, Closing borders, Disallowing any Flights in from Mexico (or at least disallowing non-U.S. Citizens to board the flights to the U.S.), etc...
Obviously at this point they can't "contain" the spread of infection. But they sure as **** could try and mitigate the speed of spread, So they have to time make meds/vaccines, thus lessing the severity of infection for those that do eventually get it.
