    Default A8 in a JB...?

I've been wondering what it could be like to put an A8 in a JB.

If somebody has done that, I'd like to hear your experiences.

    I'm all ears!

I'm currently assembling a Strat with a JB8 in the bridge. It should be done in a few weeks. I'll report when I find out how it sounds.

+1. I think it's worth a try. A8's are great magnets for the bridge.

I love my jb a-2! I was also thinking of giving this a go. Should be better than a-2, and a-2 is darn good! Imo

I've done it and it's pretty killer. It's really high output and, in my option it takes care of some of the things that people don't like about the normal JB. To me it's a natural for heavy music. It's huge sounding and very tight. I also found that it had a lot of clarity and great note separation. I'm not using one in a guitar right now, but I hope to in the future. I used a JB 20 years ago when I played metal mostly, and I wish I knew about the A8 magnet then. If I ever make a new guitar with a floyd rose, that will be the pickup I'll try first. That and maybe a custom/jb hybrid, also with the A8.

The only drawbacks of the A8s, to me, are that they're really powerful so they don't balance well with low output neck pickups. Also the sound is compressed so they're less sensitive to picking dynamics compared to an A2 or A5.

I want to put an A2 in the alternative 8. I think that would be more fun.

Ok. Looks like A8 in the JB it is!

I'll be reporting when I'll get the guitar it's going to go in.

    Are/were you using your JB8 with a 250K or a 500K pot?

I only tried it in my LP that has 500k pots.

I had a JB8 with a 250k volume pot in a lester, I found it too harsh with a 500k pot. At first, I really liked it and, to be fair, it was awesome for cruchy rhythm playing. I eventually swapped it out because the lead tone wasn't quite what I was after. Not saying it was bad, just that I am relatively new to modding and really enjoying experimenting at the moment.

    I used it with a A359 neck.

I had an A-8 in a JB for a while. Nice tight and more ballanced that the A-5. I also have several Customs with the A-8 and an Alternative 8. The Alternative 8 is more compressed and powerful and the Custom 8 clearer and more articulate.
Overall that set up was cool but I like the Alternate 8 or Custom 8 both better. The JB now has an A2 in it.

Cool! What guitar was it? How's the JB with an A2? What kind of music do you play?

I liked the JB8 I made better than the regular JB and a bit better than a JB2, but there are plenty of other pickups I would pick over it.

Works a treat in my Kramer, great for heavy stuff, not so great if you're trying to be subtle as it's not that dynamically responsive.
