Question Are You a Big B.B. King Fan?

If so, good. Help me out. I'm looking for TWO songs that, in your opinion, best represent the essence of B.B. King's guitar playing. The songs you choose don't have to be the most popular or obvious choices, although they can be.

For each song, give a brief description of why you think it's a fitting choice. Also let me know what album it's on. I'll be using it here.

    Thanks!

Yes, I'm big, and I'm also a B.B. King fan.

"Sweet Little Angel" from Live At the Regal
"To Know You Is to Love You" from Completely Well

The first indicates how he interacts with the audience, and makes them a part of the performance. They're involved in his music, and he shows his appreciation.

The second gives an example of how he stays consistent, even with a more pop/R&B approach. That album had the Philly group MFSB backing him, as well as some keys from Stevie Wonder, and he anchored the whole thing.

Reggie's picks are the same tunes I was going to pick!! The only difference is that I'd recommend the Sweet Little Angel from Live at San Quentin. His tone is superb on that record.

Nice! A little added confidence on the tune selection is good to have. Is B.B.'s rig any different on the San Quentin album? (I assume he used Lucille on both.)

He probably rented a Twin for the gig, but he got himself a good one that night. It's what I think of when someone says an amp or guitar has a woody tone. It might be something besides a Twin...

A runner-up is How Blue Can You Get from the Regal show...it shows how he can have fun with it and still do killer blues.

Oops, my bad. "Completely Well" contains "The Thrill Is Gone". The song in question is the title track for the album.

"To Know You Is To Love You" (Stevie Wonder, Syreeta Wright)
Black Bull Music/EMI Jobete Music (ASCAP)

(original vinyl LP) ABC Records catalog # 794, "To Know You Is To Love You" (1973)
(original vinyl single) ABC Records # 11373

    also released on CD:
    "B. B. King Greatest Hits" (MCA Records # MCAD-11746); track 10
(edit: a BMG Music Club release I got for my b-day a few years ago; may not be available on the street)

"To Know You Is To Love You" (MCA Records #10414); track 6 --
    this one's available from amazon.com .

Saw BB last week. He puts on a great show. At 83 he is incredible performer.
