    Default Variax 700 Acoustic...attempt #2

Got one of these off of ebay a few weeks ago and had to send it back...laminate cedar top was de-laminating around the bridge, as such:

    original auction:

    So, here's attempt #2!

11 dollars cheaper than the first, and it comes with the variax workbench software. *****in.

Crossing my fingers on this one...lets hope there aren't any problems .
    Peace,
    Dan

I hope he sent you some closeup pics?

I wonder if Line 6 might not be the best company to build an acoustic. Like they need to comarket with someone like the Bogner tube amp; someone like Takamine builds the guitar, they build the pickup/software.
    Oh no.....

    Oh Yeah!

I am begging them now to have the electronics available for their 'in development' Variax II project.

Yeah, on a 1200 dollar guitar it's a little ridiculous for something like this to happen...and it's happened on a few of 'em. I'm thinking that if the other one comes and is in good condition, I'll have my luthier bolt down the bridge and put some nice inlays in over the screws...little insurance, lot of peace of mind .

They'll say that the Variax is about $500 electronics and the rest is the instrument itself. Even then, it's almost unheard of to have a $700 dollar acoustic without a solid top.

However, this isn't a "traditional" acoustic, and doesn't work in the same manner, so the train of thought must have been "Solid tops are used on acoustics because they sound better, but we don't need to worry about projection or any of that crap on this guitar because it's a solid body. Hand me the scissors."

I'm very interested to see what line 6 offers for the Variax II. I don't think anything could ever replace my paul reed smiths for studio and at home playing, but in a live situation only having to bring around one guitar is awfully enticing .
    Peace,
    Dan

Yeah the Variax acoustic probably wouldnt benefit much from a solid top- it is essentially a solidbody guitar- in fact you wouldn't want to hear more projection from the body- especially when using altered tunings.

Not tonally, at least. Thus why the corner was snipped. Not that a solid top would have made it any louder either.

Reliability is a different beast, though. Solid tops don't de-laminate from themselves.

Of course there are plenty of 700 dollar electric guitars with laminate veneer tops. Most of them have bridges that are screwed down into the wood of the guitar, though.

...I forgot my point. Anyways, I'm waitin for the Variax II to come out. Me wonders a bit if they will do a new version of the acoustic. If it's way better I'm going to be totally pissed.
    Peace,
    Dan
