    Default P90's ... Wiring ideas

    Hi,

I have an HSH guitar that I want to put P90's in the neck and bridge. It has one vol and one tone, 5way switch and two mini toggles.

The mini toggles were used to coil tap the buckers.

My question is this...with two P90's what can I use the toggles for? Any interesting wiring ideas?

By the way the middle pup is pretty useless and never use it much. I do like the sound of neck and bridge P90's together.

    Thanks

    Si

why don'cha simplify it with a 3-way tele-style switch and use the two switches for phase and series/parallel? that'd probably give you the tones you want with useable switching options.

Do you mean leave the middle pup unconnected?

well if you don't use it then yea. either leave it in there as a dummie so it's not empty or do what leslie west did to his empty cavity and use it as an ashtray

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for two P90's with one switch for out of phase and one for series/parallel?

they have generic wiring diagrams for using mini switches and the like

Not sure if I'm being stupid but i can only see diagrams for putting a humbucker out of phase (with itself). How do you wire two P90's to be out of phase with each other?

Yes, phase and series are the best way to wire P-90's. Series gives you a vrtual HB, which is nice when you need some extra muscle. I'd leave the middle PU connected & use it with the bridge or neck, and also creat virtual HB's that way too, plus it would make for interesting phase combinations.

    Thanks Blueman...I like the idea.

Does anyone then have a wiring diagram for that with the two mini toggles?

ArtieToo & Hermetico have wiring diagrams for a single push-pull series. Phase is simple, diagrams everywhere for that. Wire one PU to the phase push-pull, the other PU to the series push-pull.

Another option is to use half of the Jimmy Page system; the tone pots are phase & series (the volume pots are coil cut). Just skip the coil cuts, and make the volumes regular pots. I've done this a couple times. Someone should have a diagram for this, as it's perfect for guitars with twin single coils (you only need one hot & one ground wire).
