Thumbs up recommend to me some movies please

we have a video store here with EVERYTHING. There is nothing they don't have. Nothing.

so, go. Bonus points if I haven't seen it. Extra bonus points if I haven't heard of it. Can be anything but I'd prefer SF, horror, cartoons, anime. But if you love a certain Western or whatever do tell. Or, so-bad-it's-good movies, obscure cult faves, Korean cyber-comedy-slashers, etc. Anything. Please don't recommend crap, neither as a practical joke, nor if you hate me, nor for any reason.

Almost picked up a cartoon called Rock and Rule with original songs by Cheap Trick, Debbie Harry, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. I already had 6 though. Anybody seen it?

ergh! a music war-classic performances by the police, echo and the bunnymen, xtc, dead kennedy's et al
cool as ice- so bad it's good vanilla ice movie. if you ever wanted to see someone make a parody of themselves, this is it. worth the price of admission just to see his hairstyle and leather jacket that says "down by law" in big letters across the back.
frenzy-an oldie but a goodie. to me, the best hitchcock movie ever. suspence so thick you can cut it with a knife!!

    Tetsuo- The Iron Man

Japnese Industiral/Cyberpunk- movie from the end of the 80s. Basicly about a man turning into a machine. The interesting thing about the film are the transformations and the atmosphere.

    Carnival of Souls (the original)

I think my favorite mst3k episodes are Kitten with a Whip, Merlin's Magical Shop of Wonders, and Delta Knights, but there really weren't any bad ones. The one with Rowsdower rules too (Final Sacrifice)...

I will have to give a negative recommendation for this one.

You should check out anything from David Lynch that you may have never seen. Lost Highway or Mullholand Drive are two good ones.

Insomnia. Forgotten film that Christopher Nolan directed. Al Pachino and Robin Williams also make this one good.

Manhunter Michael Mann directed 1st installment of Hannibal series (same book, story as Red Dragon). Different people entirely and the year was 1989. I have always wanted to see this one. Also you should check out Mann's other movie, Collateral. You have probably seen this one before but it is **** good.

Michael Ian Black and the other Michael are not good comedians or writers. The movie had no comedic value and the premise + acting were horrible. "horrible" as in "god awful", not the "it's so bad it's good". If the movie had better actors, or any laughable moments my opinion may be different. Sorry.

Many of my tastes skew towards the classics. They may be older but there's a reason they're classic. Here are a few favorites:

    Classic sci-fi

Silent Running. Hippie tree-hugger in space goes postal.
Dark Star. Super low budget student film turned cult classic. Inspiration for BBC's Red Dwarf series.
Soylent Green. Another must-see sci-fi classic. Tuesday is soylent green day!
Westworld. Yule Brenner is psycho robot cowboy in futuristic theme park.
Logan's Run. One you turn 30 you're toast.
The Last Man on Earth. Vincent Price plays the title role in a world of zombie vampires.
Forbidden Planet. The best of 50's sci-fi.
D@mnation Alley. 70'spost-apocolyptic sci-fi road trip in ultra cool vehicle.

    Fantasy:

Mysterious Island. Ray Harryhausen stop motion at its best.
The Valley of Gwangi. T-Rex meets his doom in gothic church. Cool visuals courtesy of Ray Harryhausen.
All of the Harryhausen Sinbad flicks.
The new King Kong. A little long but done really well.
Yokai Monsters. H.R. Pufnstuf meets Japanese monster movie.
Daimajin. Japanese statue gets pissed, comes to life and kills villagers. Classic but subtitled.
Van Helsing. Modern take on classic Universal monsters.

    Weird:

Blue Velvet. Classic David Lynch. I don't think he got better than this.
Wild At Heart. Laura Dern & Nicholas Cage go on heavy metal road trip. Cool.
A Clockwork Orange. Just watch it!
Natural Born Killers. Woody Harrelson as a psycho killer escapes prison.

    Animation:

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Cool old-school sci-fi animation.
Howl's Moving Castle. Same as above.
Heavy Metal. Must see with classic soundtrack and voice talent.
Fantastic Planet. Old school sci-fi animated French film.

The Haunting in Conneticut has a stupid looking box, but the preview looked really good to me. Any thoughts on this y'all?

Ever see True Romance? Good flick.

Yep, that was a surprisingly good horror movie. The jumps weren't exactly there, but there's enough that goes on with the plot that makes it pretty refreshing for the genre.

Haunting in CT wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting. It's well worth a RedBox rental though if you haven't seen it.

For action, I definitely second the Boondock Saints. I've probably seen that movie too many times to be healthy and I still rattle off lines with my best friend from that film. It's hilarious, has tons of classic scenes and really doesn't get old (I can't say there are too many films I can watch a lot and still enjoy watching again).
