Default Anitquity or Antiquity 2 for a Fender Jazz

Hi guys which sounds better on a standard Fender Jazz with Alder body and Rosewood fretboard?

I haven't made any changes yet so everything is stock

Antiquity 2 would be my primary option but I'm afraid of too much bottom end, but I wanted the 60's sound.. Though it says the sound of the 60's but a lot of reviews saying its the (vintage with huge bottom)
how does it differ from Antiquity 1?

    welcome to the forum!!

i would go with the antiquity II. to me, that is the classic jazz bass sound. the ant I is more middy and rounder on top. a great sound, especially in an ahs body maple neck bass but not classic fender to my ears.

ok so the classic sound of the 60's jazz is deeper right??

anyways will antiquity 2 go well with flatwounds?
I was goin to a basic jazz with rosewood frets and flatwounds or half rounds I'm afraid it'll will be a bit too dark

thanks much antiquity 2 it is then... hello 1960's jazz

by the way, to your description of the antiquity 1, for ash bodies and maple fret boards they sound like 70's jazz?

no. by the 70's fender was using different wire and less of it. the antiquity I bass pups arent like anything that fender actually made. as far as i know all fender bass pups use alnico 5 at least into the 70's. the alnico II of the antiquity series is a great sound but not "classic" fender

oh i get it now, it kinda bothers me that antiquity series are taken from the 50's instrument where the jazz were actually made in the 60's, anyways how does antiquity differ from basslines sjb-1vintage and sjb2 hot? I've read reviews saying that sjb-1's sounded more vintage to them.

then people havent spent enough time with real vintage fender basses the sjb-1 is a great sounding pup but the antiquity II just has something extra that really gives great tone. the sjb2 is a totally different beast. bolder and bigger

the antiquity I series is "50's"
the antiquity II series is "60's"

they may have started out that way but now basically it comes down to magnet type. antiquity's have alnico II, antiquity II have alnico V

yeah and knowing fender vintage jazz pickups have alnico V magnets in them...

and it looks to me that the BP gave antiquity 2 a top tone award for having a vintage ++ tone.. ^_^

capacitor affects the sound as well right?
I mean I've read that standard tone caps are now at 0.047 (orange drops)

and according to jazz 62 specs they have 2 stacked knobs
the neck capacitor has 0.05 while bridge has 0.03.. would these sound ok? or I'll stick to the standard 0.047?

the .05 is basically the same as .047

you could use those values and they would work but i might stick with .05/.047 for both

I see, I just saw the specs of the 62 Jazz having 0.03 jazz so like it would make them sound more 62 like..

Hi I'm new to this Forum
    very nice place!!!
I had both Antiquity pickup pairs in the SAME end 90's japanese Fender Jazz Bass. First the difference is not too much, but it is there. The Antiquity II is more like and end 60's JB it has more deeper mids, the 80's-pop-production-bridge-pickup-sound........no problem. A kind of Pastorius sound....no problem.
The Aniquity is brighter, less mids and you feel that is has more bass. Both pickup pairs are beautiful.
I use Antiquities in ALL my instruments, guitars and basses. At the moment I'm starting a new Warmoth P-bass project. I'm gonna post it here. BTW with the normal Antiquity P-bass pickup (no raise A, no II)
    Hope I could help

thanks much dude.. I think I'm going for Antiquities 2 coz I like to have a lot more midrange emphasis especially on the fingerstyle funk.. as for P bass, have you tested the comparison? I think I'll put the 2's on the p bass as well~

    Hi eyecandy
If you want more midrange, take the Antiquity II, that's YOUR PU, if had both in the same bass, The II has more mids!!
    Her are my current instruments
an Edwards jimmy Page LP with Antiquities
an Edwards junior double cut with an ANtiquity dogear (Killer!!!)
....and my selfmade P-bass with Warmoth neck and Antiquity I pickup
........the Jazz Bass?? I've sold it last year

They were like this!!! These are the Antiquity II, the pair of Ant I were not so much reliced.
