    Default Acoustic:PAF::Banjo:?

    Hey, I have had an electric banjo running around my head for a couple years now, and I can't seem to figure out what exactly I wanna do, pickup-wise. Or wood-wise, for that matter. Does anyone have any ideas for a good combo?
    I guess another way to put this is, what is the best wood/pickup combo you've used for chicken picking? Or other styles of fingerpicking?

    I found http://www.electricbanjo.com/ through a google search, and a quick musican's friend search showed a few electrics. I don't know much about banjo construction beyond "it's some sort of snare drum with strings", but you could probably use these places as a starting point for building your own. Good luck!

    I have my doubts if a wood-topped instrument (like shown on Sanford's link) would sound like a banjo, and not just a 4-string guitar. If you want to get a real banjo sound, I would think that the best bet would be the kind of suspended jazz humbucker that attaches to the sides of the fingerboard. These usually have a blade or blades, so you don't have to worry about string spacing. Don't know if anyone makes a narrow one for banjo. The guitar type would work, but look butt-ugly.
