I don't want to join the Epi vs Gibson undertow in this thread, but if I wanted to try out a Les Paul to see what I was missing I would get an Epi and drop some decent pups in it.

That is what I did. I can afford a few LPs if I wanted, but I just can't spend that kind of $$$ on guitars that have crooked tuners off the rack (I have seen many like this to include a Slash Sig LP when they came out). I love my little Epi, it sound great and plays great. What more can you ask for?

For the cost of Gibson, I can buy Jacksons and Hamers.

Jackson quality makes Gibson cry, and Hamer is what Gibson wants to be when it grows up.

I avoided Les Paul guitars for a long time, although I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Gibson fan. I bought my FIRST one only about 9 years ago. If I tell you that the only two guitars I take to a band situation are the Les Paul Custom and my Bastardcaster Tele, does that tell you how important that instrument is to me?

I always wonder about players who have problems with upper fret access and heels. Do they have little Vienna sausage fingers that trip over each other trying desperately to reach the 22nd fret? LOL
If you play guitar chest-high, you play from your heart.

If you play guitar waist-high, you play from your guts.

If you play guitar low, you play from your huevos.

I went through probably 100 guitars before I bought my first Les Paul. I know own two of them, and I am sure I will buy more.

I was never "against" them or anything, just none I picked up really "did it" for me. I finally found one that did, so I bought it.

Everyone needs an LP type guitar in their stable......period! It's a "tool BTW" Whatever your funds permit.

Coz if you don't GAS over one, then you aint really a guit player.

You needs one of each of these these tools in your arsenal!
