X2N + Alder = ???

Whoa son! Now we haven't even begun to discuss the X2N in parallel and single mode. Wayyyyy different creature. I'll bet dollars for donuts Mr. Vai was doing that too. Every X2N should be wired for the three modes if you want any kind of flexibility out of it.

This is absolutely true. I'm gonna have to wire up a parallel mode on my 7.

Good EQ description. Everything turned up. I'll say the "Kind of compressed" is a bit of an understatement. I think it is MONSTER compressed (in series mode....)

This is a relative term. It is MONSTER compressed, compared to a PAF, but not compared to an EMG...and it's not so much different from a JB or Distortion.

Parallel in an X2N is an awesome sound clean or distorted!

Vai used the X2N in the mean greenie mutt charvel, his mustard yellow "eyes" Jackson, and a couple pink Jacksons. This was in '83-'84 I believe. It inspired me to put an X2N in my Kahler equipped Les Paul Standard I was gigging with back them. It sounded OK but I have never missed that PU. Vai used the X2N on Alcatrazz Disturbing the Peace and on the Public Image stuff. If you've never heard Vai with Public Image you don't know what you are missing!!

Yes. He also used it in the so-called 70s 'sticker' Strat. This guitar was used during the Zappa stint, Alcatrazz and recently on a few tracks of Real Illusions.
