Default is there anything better sound for guitar than a new set of strings on a guitar?

i dont think so. it just adds so much of a better sound. richer, brighter, warmer, nicer, etc. just put on some new strings, and love em (new set, not new brand, still use dr pure blues .9's).

i used to change strings every 2-4 weeks, but for some reason i didnt change em in like 4 months. ekk. cleaned the fret board, new strings, and im living large!

for some reason I like the feel and sound of old, gunked up strings. Or maybe I'm a moron. I like the way the sweat and dirt fills in the ridges, and the strings feel like flatwounds. Never change my acoustic strings, til they break. Nice and warm...

Ick. I cant stand old strings. When I've got the money, I change my strings every two weeks. I hate to wait more than a month. Well, I dunno now, I'm using some Dean Markly Blue Steels, and they havnt even started to discolor yet, and I've gigged with 'em twice. My acoustic gets the most play out of all my guitars (now that I dont have a number one electric, but that should be back in order soon) and those strings get changed every 2 weeks, regardless. I cant stand old strings on my acoustic. It takes away so much complexity that it just makes all acoustics sound the same. I hate it. Plus, I have a very warm acoustic, and old strings dont help. RW back and sides, mahog neck and RW fretboard = one warm guitar.

I agree. I like strings that have 2 days of play on them the best, since they're new but settled. For gigs, I like to string up a day or two before, and make sure they're fully stretched, to avoid any potential tuning hassles. I change them the minute the low E starts to sound like "plod" instead of "boing."

I enjoy the sound of new strings always. They sound so fresh and new! As for electircs i dont mind the sound of older guitar strings, i changed mine on my strat a few days ago, but i hadnt changed them for almost 2 months! and they were ok i just wanted to hear new strings in action. For acoustics, new strings cannot be beat! I love that springy sound they give but as they get older i dont mind them once again its just different.

I do 2-3 gigs a week, my strings dont last longer than 2 weeks.
But i just switched to .52's and they've been on for 3 weeks without breakage, so i think they will stay for a month at a time
I played the tele-gib. 'nuff said.

Yep, gotta love the sound of new strings. I'm about due for a string change myself. I think the ones I got on my acoustic are several months old.

New roundwounds are great form most of my electrics and my acoustic, but old Flatwounds are the best on my bass. I bought a new set, and after trying them for a couple of days, I put the flats back on.

possibly the reason why you change them every 2 weeks is that DR's were built to die, they only retain brightness for a few days

i keep all of mine on for more than a month unless i break one, but that rarely happens. all of my guitars sound better with strings that have settled, plus i have 5 guitars that share playing time, so the only ones right now that get changed about every month are the bluesbird and my #1 tele

Um...a hot date with Monica Belluci 'sounds better' to me.

    Anyway...
I just changed back to 9's. Couldn't be happier. Just got a pickup installed, the guitar setup, and new Ernie Ball's on my Strat. Sounds great!

Hmm, interesting.. Which ones did you try?? My Tite-Fits sound good for easily a month or more, depending on how often I play

Then again, I have 16 guitars that share my time for the mopst part, so that may have something to do with it. But then again, I never had that problem when I played my Dinky Reverse daily either....
