I'm sure this has been brought up on here but has anyone took the A5 magnet out of their SD 59 pup and put in an A8 mag? What kind of tone would I be looking at by swapping the mag?

I am also considering this, search "598" and see what you come up with.

Delicious! SRS, Does that also accurately depict a pg8?

I used to put ceramics in my 59b, it was an interesting sound. Very raw, more aggressive, more output....thinking about it now, the best way I can think of to describe that combination was to refer to the 59 ceramic as MEAN.
It could be a little lacking in warmth though (duh! it was MEAN!) and I can see how the alnico 8 might actually be the best of both worlds. The output and aggressive crunch of the ceramic, with the warmth of an alnico.

the PG8 is probably grittier/crunchier. it's one of my favorites for overdrive/distortion. cleans not so much though, it still had this wierd breakup on the high end that i couldn't get along with unless i added at least some light overdrive. the cleans were just too harsh.

I have. I liked the tone of the '59b just as it is, but putting an A8 made the pairing with the '59n more balanced with the same EQ, plus where the '59b was just a little bit wimpy and brittle, now it became more muscular and sweeter, getting a singing quality that wasn't there before.
And last but not least: the "both-on" position gets from "excellent" to "to die for".
