Well i had to be home for a few hours today for the verizon guy to come and fix my fios and while i was, the ups man showed up. I havent taken any pics because i had to come back to work.
Back story to this was that i saw them mentioned by beandip and decided to check them out. Cheap prices and overall some pretty amazing reviews. Anyways, i wasnt really planning on buying anything in the near future. But then i checked my musicians friend card balance. I had a negative balance because ive been paying every month into and havent used it in ages, lol.
So i decided what the heck, lets check these things out. Anyways, on to the guitar. Its a 000 sized body with mahogany sides and back and spruce top.
Visual inspection shows some really nice grained solid mahogany used for the back and sides. The spruce (englemann?) used for top is a little wide grained but pretty nice in general, even had a little bearclaw. Fit and finish of the guitar was in general very good. I didnt see and sloppy gluing on the inside. The scalloped X bracing is cut and sanded nicely. Only little piece of glue i saw lurking was from the side of the nut.
Action and playability out of the box was OK. A few tweaks will be needed here or there. Ill probably replace the bridge pins, nut and saddle at some point and give it a proper set up. Im confident it will then play like a dream. The neck angle is good. The neck carve is amazing for me. Its pretty wide and its a hard V, def not for everyone but it fits my hand perfectly.
Sound wise....very very impressed. For a 000 size guitar it is ****ed loud! very full sound with a good high end. Dull is a word that wouldnt come near the description of this guitar. It has a really strong bass but its not as deep as a rosewood 000 would be if that makes sense. The strings all ring out individually as loud as each other and the wider fretboard make finger picking pretty easy.
These are all my initial impressions. Im very very happy. $300 for a MIC guitar...i did not expect to get something like this. This is one of those rare occasions where all the online hype of some super great super cheap guitar actually seam to be true. Ill be keeping this one for sure.
