The long standing story is that when GNR got signed, Slash had a small collection of guitars- Jacksons, Strats, BC Rich, that just didn't sound good to the producer. The producer brought in the "Max" Les Paul since it was a more accurate and better sounding Les Paul than Gibson was making at the time. The builder had a supply of maple, mahogany and brazilian rosewood that was leftover from the 50's, so building it with this wood essentially gave you a 50's Les Paul. That's why they cost so much. There was another replica that was brought in Chrs Derrig that was subsequently returned, and no one knows if it was the MAX or Chris Derrig Les Paul used for Appetite for Destruction.

Same goes for the Marshall amp used- there's a bunch of contradictory stories floating around as to what happened to the Tim Caswell modded Marshall

Maybe, but I want to hear about this one first in the event that it becomes production or possibly a small run for forum members only. I'm also hoping it will be further out instead of sooner because I may be able to afford it then.

By the way, this would be for my OTHER Les Paul, not the black one that I've been posting about for weeks.

Stoner Rock and Stoner Metal are interchangeable terms describing sub-genres of rock and metal music. Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo, low-tuned and bass-heavy. It incorporates elements of Psychedelic Rock, Blues-Rock and Doom Metal into a more repetitive and riff-centred style. Melodic vocals and 'retro' production are also common traits.

Kris has passed away of course, but Max still post on MLP fairly often.

Plenty of reading over there on the Slash guitars.

good thing is that hopefully this will stop people from asking me 'you have that Slash pickup, right? How come you don't sound like him'?

Stop there, please. "When will it be out? Forum exclusive run?" These thoughts need to go away. If anyone is getting their knickers twisted over this "New/old APIIPro" thing, then just order it from the custom shop and be done with it. I don't feel entitled to a "small run for forum members only" on this, and my opinion is there shouldn't be one. Slash did what any of us here can do: he ordered something from the custom shop.

im afraid i have to +1 on that too. we are lucky enough to get to design our own forum pickup every year and they just gave us the phat staple run too. this is one of those things that if you want, i think you should just have to call up and order it...just like the man himself.

Hey! Ow! Ooh! Kazaam! Not all of us are rollin' in the dough, fatpockets. Not a bad thing to wonder that, you know? $180 right now is a no-go and I'm just askin' if it will. I'm not sayin' I'm "entitled". It's been done before, and I was just wondering if they may have been a plan for this. Just wondering. Not demanding. Sheesh. If you don't ask, you don't get.

And the Crazy 8, too, and the Strabro90 or whatever it is called (although the technical specs were decided by Seymour et al., the concept, a Strat pickup with traditional tones and P-90 tones, was decided by the forum.)

Hard Rock - gain on 5 - singing about good times.

Heavy Metal - gain on 10 - screaming about something.

As an aside, I find this down right laughable that Gibson is going to build and sell a copy of a guitar that is a counterfeit copy of a Gibson guitar...

The pickups, and I quote from Slash's own twitter page "The pickups are Alnico II's, but with subtle design differences to make them as they were made in 1986"

Now, Evan says this is legit so I say...CONFIRMED...there IS a difference in older Alnico II Pro's and the ones you can buy off the shelf today...

This raises the question...what other SD pickups have been changed over the years??
Ironic thing is, the Derrig Clone has prob sparked the sale of more Gibsons than one can count.. Plus, it was prob made better than any Gib of the day.
Im sure the Clone of the Clone will sell for $5-7grand

All they're going to do is get a regular '59 reissue and paint it to match the finish on his clone. I'm sure it going to go for at least 2K+.

I'm a fan of his music but I'd rather get another 2K+ Gibson. As for his new custom SD pups...... IDK, I really don't like A2 mags so wouldn't be interested in them (even if they were made for the forum).

I'm still interested in the specs, though. Some people here say there isn't any real mojo in vintage SD pups (including some from the SD customer support).

More like 'resurrected' than 'sparked' since around that time all anybody wanted was shred-sticks with Floyd Roses...
