Default Officially Lust Worthy Jazz Box

Played one of these while I was up in Boulder for the CU Game this weekend...plugged into a Fender Deluxe Amp...WOW!

I thought it was pretty darn cool looking as well as playing and sounding quite nice. Been on my mind ever since. Not too shabby for an approx. $500-600 guitar.

I'm okay w/Black Guitars...they're gonna get all those fine scratches anyway...but yeah, this thing was cool in Johnny Cash "Man In Black" sort of way...stood out from everything else in the room to me visually. It was a lot of fun to play sounded good and was well manufactured too.

****...it got slammed by the reviewers on Harmony Central...sounds like the Ibanez Art Series...had one a couple of years back and it started to come apart at the fretboard and binding after about a month of owning it.

Nice. I like black guitars myself, probably a third of mine are that color. With gold hardware they look so elegant.

I wouldn't base too much on what a reviewer or two says. Not like they're any kind of unbiased expert or anything. With any consumer product there are individual specimens that aren't as good as the average. That's part of manufacturing, all the more so when you involve things as variable as wood & tone. Seeing one specimen, good or bad, doesn't mean you're necessarily qualified to judge all the rest without seeing them. Most of the stuff I like, someone else hates, especially on this forum. And vice versa. A lot of this is opinion and personal taste.

I tend to make my own decisions, usually after too much overly analytical research of whatever I can find on the item. But, when there's an indication of "quality issues", as I had w/my Ibanez Artcore Jazz Box...I stay away.

Which Ibanez was it and what was the problem?

Without looking specifically, I believe it was an AF75, tobacco sunburst, smaller thicker body, floating bridge....binding and fretboard started to separate.

$600 ibanez copy = instant gratification
the real thing = long-term gratification

There is a great deal of truth to that statement.

I felt the same way after I bought my Gibson Les Paul...after a number of "less expensive substitutes" came and went...the "Real Deal" cured the itch.

Just glad i learned that lesson early on...now i'm spreadin the good word!

Saving for an expensive guitar is not as bad as the emotional trauma caused by cheap guitars
