    Default Mini Humbuckers Again!

I am looking for a bridge pickup for a strat that is a little more phat than a
'Lil 59 but not as fat as a full size humbucker.

Then I saw elscorcho's LP post with the mini HBs .... and now timdash's post re mini HBs.

How would these work in the bridge position of a strat? Are they available trem spaced (or does it matter)? Are they available without covers?

Go and try a Fender Hot Rod '52 Telecaster. This has a Seymour Duncan Vintage Mini Humbucker in the neck position. Auditioning this instrument should give you a strong idea of how the pickup would sound on your Strat. I believe that you will be pleasantly surprised.

im not sure thats the best way to get an idea of what the sound will be. if you check a stock strat neck pup side by side with that pup itll give you a little glimpse of what you might get but because of the different guitars and pup position change it wont be the same.

they are not trem spaced but it shouldnt really matter. you cannot get them uncovered.

i think they can be a very cool pup in lots of guitars, the bridge of a strat is no-exception. little warmer and fatter than a single coil, little brighter and clearer than a paf

My point was only that the SD Vintage Mini HB has exactly the character that the thread starter desires. Not too fat, not too thin.

These things are not only not trem-spaced polepiece wise, even the screw distance is not the same as a regular humbucker. You definitely need a custom pickguard.

Then, there is the difference between Firebird-style and LP Deluxe style minis. The non-antiquity SD minis are Firebird-style and don't do what the LP Deluxe ones do at all.

Minis from modern Gibson Firebirds are incredibly hot, BTW, 22 Kohm in the bridge.

"modern" firebird is the key there. the new ones are very little like the old ones which is a shame imo
